Happy Tampering Day

It was not long ago our own players wanted out. That culture changed and now we showed those like Rankins and Cappa the door for underperforming.

No doubt, we have work to do in FA yet, but the real work is on teh coaches to improve the roster. We need them to take good NFL players and make 2 or 3 great.

The FO took the #1 FA in 2025 Tee off the market and then did what many of us said may be a mistake signed him long term. They paid him. Maybe time to give the FO props for a job well done.

True, still need a Guard or two, but so far they have done a good job of making sure this team didn't regress which could of happened
if we lost some of these solid to great players. Need the new coaches to coach the young guys up, namely in the trenches as we did
invest into some good ones last year in the Draft in Amarius Mims, Kris Jenkins and McKinnley Jackson.

Spot on. If those 3 take huge strides, we are a much better team.

Sometimes it as much guys on the roster as adding more talent.

Please use 2025 free agency to fix the trenches, not the draft!!!!!!!!

Golden and his staff also need to get the most out of all the young DBs. They have used quite a bit of draft capital on them over the past few years and injuries derailed them last season. They need to get CTB back to his 2023 level of play and continue to help Turner and Hall get better as well as continued improvement from Newton.

They have put a lot of $ into the offense but they have used most of their high round draft picks on the defensive side so it’s time to get something out of those investments.

Yep, that is what great teams do. Draft and coach up the youth. There are a lot of young, talented players for the new coaches to work with
and I am sure this upcoming Draft we can see what type of scheme Golden is going to implement by the type of players drafted. For example
I could see us drafting a pass rushing LB to be Golden's Viper in his Defense.

Should be interesting to say the least.

The DB's I think could be very good as you say, they have a lot of talent they drafted lately to get the most out of. CTB was very disappointing
to me last year, but Turner and Dax looked pretty damn good. Fig also made some nice plays as a rookie. Have liked Jordan Battle since we
drafted him and didn't like Lou benching him for Vonn early last season. Was a bad move.

I could see us drafting another DB early this year in Emmanwori to be that playmaking FS that we need. I don't care if Stone got some picks
late last year, he cannot tackle and lucks into his picks. About all he has for him is good hands, I would move on from him and add a Guard.

Good post.

I did not watch much college ball, but I thought Emmanwori was a SS. He is like 230, yes? Do I have that wrong?

Would Will Hernandez be an option at G?

Yep. Coming off an ACL tear, though.

He is big, but he is fast and can cover with a lot of range. I think he could play FS for us.

As we know, Jordan Battle is strictly a SS.

Thanks for this, didn't know Hernandez was coming off an ACL tear. Makes sense why we haven't signed him then.

Even the “be patient” crowd has to admit this is pretty ugly outside of Vonn Bell. The chances of getting a decent contributor this late into FA are not great.

I thought Bynes waa pretty good. So was Brown until the injury.

But this is not a normal year.

I *hope* we still have some significant moves to make. There are some good FA's still out there.

For 2 whole games? LOL

His inability to stay healthy was exactly why he made it so far into FA.

We have definitely gambled on the guard position...

I have not heard one rumor about Brandon Scherff talking to the Bengals or any other team. I figured he would've been signed by now, what gives on him?

Retirement maybe? The whole situation with the guard market is odd. The rest must have issues maybe outside of financial (injuries/retirement).

I'd still like to see the team add a few pieces before depending on the draft as the only source of new talent. For example, there are a couple of inexpensive moves that they could make to improve the quality of the OL and the secondary in adding Brandon Scherff and Stephon Gilmore. I get that their both old, but they both also can still play a lot of snaps if needed to, along as offer some wisdom and guidance to younger players.

I wonder what Assante Samuel Jr will cost?

Yeah, maybe Scherff is planning on retiring. Hernandez is coming off an ACL. Jenkins has problems staying healthy etc.

Im a bit surprised Za'darius Smith isnt signed. The guy is a great pass rusher and good stopping the run. He shouldnt cost too much money. I would love to have him sign with the Bengals but Im not sure we have room if we are considering drafting a DE

Here's where Bengals stand in terms of net-new gains and losses through a week and a half of FA:

Additions:
+ TJ Slaton, DT
+ Oren Burks, LB
+ Samaje Perine, RB

Losses:
- ADG
- Mike Hilton
- Alex Cappa
- Sam Hubbard
- Sheldon Rankins
- Trent Brown
- Vonn Bell
- Khalil Herbert
- D'Ante Smith

As of right now, that leaves 6 spots open with 6 draft picks coming in April, possibly more if Bengals make any trades.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. Ended 9-8 but barely missed playoffs

Changes needed to do better in Sept/Oct moving forward.

Sorry for Party Rocking!

I was listening to Todd Haley earlier today on Sirius and they were talking about the Bengals and Haley made a comment about the Bengals needing to replace Cappa and he said "The Bengals already having Karras to replace Cappa". I don't know if it was just a slip or if the Bengals are actually thinking about this and using Lee at center and then grabbing a guard in the draft. Interesting take, if that's what the Bengals are thinking and why they have been so quiet in FA on the guard pursuit.

True.  Rapien tweeted a list of guys the bengals could add to improve roster.  The usual guards were mentioned.  Calais Campbell.  Great player but I don’t the need now.  Another name that caught my eye was safety Julian Blackmon of the colts.

Matthew Judon is still out there if looking for a rotational rusher
