Nice couple of wins. I just wish they'd have saved a few runs for tomorrow. But hey, we finally broke that nasty 0-fer streak with a win in extras, so who knows, maybe they continue bucking the trend.

Down on the farm...Chase Burns went 7 innings last night giving up 3 hits and no runs.

Chase's AA stats are now...
42 innings pitched
26 hits
6 earned runs

CES back with a BANG. ....Sweep would put Reds at .500, and a good bounce back from the losing.

Reds needed a power hitter, and this CES neck, shoulders, back is a big dude like Willie Stargell, Dave Parker, Lee May or Kevin Mitchell. Not a Punch and Judy hitter, but a Big Dude Power Hitter that Reds have been needing in the power middle of the batting order.   That he can play Third Base or First Base is a huge plus. So Welcome Back to The Reds CES. He's big enough to play Linebacker for The Bengals. When they interviewed him, or when he stands next to the other players, this is one big strong guy, this CES.  Reds would not be going for a sweep without him in this series. Reds have been all jab and no knock out punch. Guys getting on base, but no RBI hitters.  Hopefully CES behind De La Cruz is the Big Guy they've needed behind De La Cruz, like Boog Powell after Frank Robinson for a Power Middle to knock in RBI's.  As Tony Perez once said, Pete and Joe get on base, but without me and Bench knocking them in, we don't win.

Johnny Bench set the record with 25 homeruns by a catcher at the end of June. Cal Raleigh hit his 25th and 26th yesterday on June 7th.

McLain really needed that 2 run shot. Let's see if that's his springboard back to normalcy.

Wade Miley is starting against Cleveland tomorrow? If the appearance in the Brewers game is any indication, he better have a short leash.

Very exciting news, Chase Burns has been promoted to AAA!

In this thread, the OP asked what's the realistic timing for Chase Burns debut in the majors. My prediction was that, if he remained as dominant as he had started the year (which he has), he'd be promoted to AAA after 8 starts in AA.

Quote:The big difference with Burns is he has not had that rough start to AA that Lowder had. He has made 4 starts so far and he's been just as impressive against AA hitting as he was against A+ hitting, and has been even better at limiting walks and runs with a BB/9 of 0.95 and an ERA of 1.89. His K/9 dropped slightly from 15.4 to 13.3, but 13.3 would still be extraordinarily elite in MLB (for reference, Hunter has a K/9 of 12.02 this season).

If he keeps up this dominance, I could see him debuting in the majors by mid June. Let's predict June 19th as the earliest realistic date, just for fun. That would be approximately 6 starts from now, which would mean he completed 4 more starts in AA (to match Lowder's 8 dominant starts), plus 1 in AAA.

Chase Burns just completed his 8th start in AA, and is now being promoted to AAA.

Now, with Rhett Lowder, he only made 1 start in AAA before being promoted to the majors. I think that was mostly due to need though, so I wouldn't be surprised if Burns is given 3 to 4 starts in AAA before the buzz to bring him up to the majors starts to become overwhelming. Especially if he continues to dominate in AAA.

I am really excited about this guy's future and I would love to see him in the majors in July. I'm looking forward to seeing how he performs in AAA and how long the Reds wait before calling him up. Because, at this point, it seems inevitable that he'll see the majors this year.

They don't even need to spend top-10 money ($83m from 10th)... but it's easy to see a potential future where if they had spent enough to get to the middle of the pack they would be in one of the wildcard spots right now.

Hyesong Kim: 3yr/$12.5m (+$2.5m to his former team)
Paul Goldschmidt: 1yr/$12.5m
Pete Alonso: 1yr/$30m
Alex Bregman: 3yr/$120m (really 1yr/$36.6m with player opt outs after and a ton deferred if he doesn't)

Yep that's exactly my point.
They operate about the same or lower than they did ~10 years ago.

Here is their Payroll by year going back to 2015:

2015 - $112 mill
2016 - $87 mill
2017 - $96 mill
2018 - $100 mill
2019 - $128 mill
2020 - $55 mill (shortened season)
2021 - $126 mill
2022 - $115 mill
2023 - $95 mill
2024 - $102 mill
2025 - $115 mill

It's no wonder the team isn't as competitive as they should be given they are only paying about the same they did in 2015 and how much more inflated salaries are now compared to 10+ years ago.
With another 1-2 consistent hitters and 1-2 better (relief) pitchers, Reds could really be right there in one of the WC spots or possibly even pushing CHI for division lead.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. Ended 9-8 but barely missed playoffs

Changes needed to do better in Sept/Oct moving forward.

Sorry for Party Rocking!
