Only idiot teams pay for what you've done instead of what you will do.

Trey signed bad contracts because his agents a dumb ass.  Literally costing him 10s of millions of dollars.  That is not the FO's fault.  With that said, the Bengals may catch him up some by giving him some more guaranteed money now to keep the future cap hits smaller.  He's not getting 35/4 years a year from anyone, so there has to be some give and take.  More give on the Bengals FO part this time, because if they fleece him again, then Trey needs to fire his agent, then re-hire him and fire him again.

I agree 100% and it was Trey who hired them, then rehired them every step of the way.

But, let's hope cooler heads prevail, a deal gets done and the same group will continue bashing the FO for not getting it done sooner and paying Trey 40 million a year for next 3 years.

I'd be shocked if they just gave him more money and kept it a 1 year deal.

I think you'll see something like 3 years $100 million where he gets a raise this year, then like 2 years of $35 million.

Take this for what you will. I beem a Bengals fan since 1987 and I've got quite a few DMs that the trey deal is done 35 a year.. Didn't get a number in the years. Like I said, take ot for what you will..

Bleh - I don't care really.  I gave up commenting on the FO pushy shovey years ago.  It just isn't worth the grief and nothing is ever going to change.  Why take on the stress?  *shrugs*

It's part of the position responsibility. Trey is basically a home run hitter that is a liability in the field with his glove and arm.

Let's say Trey doesn't play like Carson Palmer.  So he isn't playing, we aren't discussing that.  In a case where regular season is going and Trey is sitting out.   There are teams that have offered a 2nd round pick in 2026 and they take over paying Trey plus they sign him long term.  Would you make the trade, or would you wait until he goes free agent in March and get nothing in return.  That extra 2nd round draft pick looking pretty good in March.  

This isn't for some of you crawling on here saying he is playing for Bengals this season. This is only about if he doesn't play, would you make the trade for a 2nd round draft pick to at least come away with something ?  Yes, the Bengals can force him to sit out and not get paid this season, but they don't get the extra draft pick trade that way.

Detroit has the draft pick trade on the table for Trey, as does Chicago or Green Bay.  Teams are lined up to make a trade for Trey and sign him long term.  If he doesn't play, would you make the trade to get something in return.  OK, if you trade Trey, Bengals miss having him in 2025. However if he sits out, Bengals miss having him just the same. At least with a trade you get extra draft picks in next NFL Draft.  Plus with a trade, you move on.  You can see if there are any Defense free agents left that can play for the Bengals in 2025.  Or you can play cat and mouse with Trey missing ball games, but I fail to see how that helps the team. 

I think we have to face the fact that Bengals put their money into signing Chase and Higgins long term plus what they pay Burrow.  Bengals may no longer be in position to cough up Trey money, but other teams not paying Burrow, Chase, Higgins might have Trey money.  It could be they chose Chase and Higgins over Trey, and we can live with that, but at least maybe go for these trades offering top draft picks to Bengals in the next draft. 

If Trey won't play, would you make one of the trades offering top draft picks, or would you let him sit out all season and get nothing in return ???  You make the call.

Legit question. Does Trey have more or less sacks the rest of his career than he has the last two seasons?

So setting the Over/Under at 34.5, do you feel like Trey exceeds that, or falls short for the rest of his nfl career, with the bengals or any other NFL team. I’m asking because I was curious if Trey could get to 110 on his career, but I could make an argument for either side.

More. He had 35.5 sacks in the 3 years previous to his recent back-to-back 17.5 sack seasons.

Assuming he doesn't retire early because of these negotiations, I think he'll get 110 before he retires. It's not unreasonable to expect to him to be able to play at least 4 more years if he gets paid. Even if he starts falling off and gets something like 13, 8, 6, and 6 sacks over those 4 years... that still meets the 33 he'd need.

My reaction to this report was, "Talks never should have halted in the first place, but I'm glad they're talking again, I guess..."

The play by play announcing of things is a bit exhausting. They did this with Tee Higgins last year, with some twitter fans declaring he was signed, and then his mom refuted that, and then we all sat and waited for like 48 hours to see who was right. That's what this feels like.

I'd prefer we don't hear anything about it until the deal is done. Everything else is just purposeless noise, imo.

In your scenario with Trey sitting the season out, I would not trade him for anything less than a 1st round pick. He's the sack leader, right, and to some that's all that matters. So I would tell his agent bring in an offer of a 1st round pick, or be ready for OTA's next year after wasting one of his last years, because if he sits out we still own him when he returns. And then I would use his salary from this year to bring in a hired gun at guard. But I'm stubborn.

Unfortunately, that doesn't happen when one of the sides deploys the Run to the Press tactic.
