These oft-repeated (by you) talking points are both pointless and useless.

Thanks for that.

As to the pick I was not thrilled with it both because of the lack of actual production and because of the terrible reputation his agent has. Trey I think will be extended. As to the practice of players wailing to renegotiate contracts before it is time just because the market moved I hope the next NFLPA - NFL agreement fixes issues like that (among other issues). I'd also like to get rid of the Funding Rule and just choose a percentage Guaranteed and make all contracts automatically guaranteed to that percentage.

I would add one more update to the agreement with NFLPA, as follows:

With NIL, some of these college players are entering the draft having made millions already. The days of draftees being in debt for tens, if not hundreds of thousands of dollars to their agent/agency are over. They don't feel forced to sign a contract just to pay off the debts. That leads to the behavior we are seeing from Shemar.

Knowing that he can sit out this year and re-enter the draft next year, is an option that he can take, given that he is already a millionaire.

This option has to be taken off the table by NFL.

If a college athlete doesn't want to sign a reasonable contract by the Team who drafts him, he should sit out 4 years (the length of the contract) before being eligible to re-enter the draft. Or he can buy his re-entry for the following year's draft, by paying the Team who drafted him the full contract value he was offered, or $15M (whichever is greater). This amount would be adjusted relative to cap adjustment every year. Also, the Team gets this amount added to their cap space immediately.

Lastly; just to make sure that there are no shady tampering/influence by another Team, any Team who drafts the player the following year, has to compensate the original Team for the draft value loss.

In this situation, Shemar would have to pay the Bengals $19M for the right to reenter the draft next year. We get $19M of cash AND additional cap space this year. Additionally; we get two first round picks for 2026 draft from the Team who drafts him in 2026.

I think that will end this garbage behavior.

Agreed!

As were Reader and Bates. Losing each was a blow from which we have yet to recover. But to their credit, they played out their contracts.

Losing Trey would be unfortunate.

The Bengals have had one of the worst defenses in the NFL the last few years.  It's safe to say that if they don't have Hendrickson and they also don't have the #1 draft pick, that certainly doesn't help what has been one of the worst defenses in the NFL.

I do not enjoy saying this.  I've been a Bengal Fan sine 1968, and I get accused of being a Homer and rooting for Bengals when others give up on them.  I hope the Bengals would have a good defense even if Hendrickson and the #1 pick don't play for Bengals, but I find it hard to see how that would make a bad defense become good.  Even Golden needs players, he is no miracle worker.  Since I've been a Bengals Fan since 1968, I smell the cheapness of Mike Brown still alive and well as both Hendrickson and the #1 pick are frustrated with contract negotiations with Mike Brown and Family.

Now if they don't sign the #1 pick, that should give them money to sign Hendrickson.  If they don't sign Hendrickson, that should give them money to sign the #1 pick.  If they don't sign either one, that is just cheap.

I said the good news is there are no games yet being still June. I also said Hendrickson could miss Summer Camp and Preseason and be OK as a Veteran if he starts the regular season.  The #1 draft pick however will stink if he misses Summer Camp and Preseason, because he needs coached up.  It will soon be July and Bengals front office needs to get with it.  I don't care if they trade one of them, but one of them has to play for Bengals this season.

Everything that you and I say is just purely assumption at this point in time..again the bengals have hired a respectable defensive coordinator and acquired numerous new players through both the draft and FA..furthermore..those younger defensive players now have a year or two under their belt...i think stewart will be in camp..I dont think hendrickson is worth what he thinks he us and most other NFL teams clearly have shown the same..and again..injuries decimated this team.....I think you need to settle down..enjoy the Reds and lets both keep our fingers crossed that we have a better year...I think we will

Well I’m concerned about the defense regardless if Stewart & Trey are playing. But they’ll both be playing. Trey hopefully not on bad terms and playing not to get hurt.

They will both be playing, but for what teams ?  This is more serious than you think.  I don't see Trey playing another game for Bengals.  The #1 pick may never play for Bengals as he is upset with Mike Brown double standards that other teams do not have.

There is no way anybody can just say that they are both going to play for Bengals.  They both say they are not going to play for the Bengals.

I don't think they can get Trey to play now, and he just wants out.  Many teams are lined up to trade for Trey and pay him, and Bengals may have to do the trade. It may not be bad either considering how much Trey is asking. However jerking the #1 draft pick around with Mike Brown double standards contracts that other teams don't pull, is throwing off trading Trey.  It could be possible to sign the #1 draft pick, and trade Trey and get something for him, plus dump salary and move on.

Going into July 1st, it is very possible neither ever play a game for Bengals in 2025, and that leaves Bengals pretty weak at defensive end.  So Bengals front office needs to get with it.  Mike Brown and Family have only made both mad enough to never play for Bengals.  Mike Brown is cheap, and the cheaper of the two to sign is the draft pick, not Trey wanting 30 million or whatever. I like Trey, but they might want to sign the draft pick, Trade Trey and move on.

The NFL has several top DE's that are unsigned because they are asking much more. Watt, Parsons, Whitworth are all asking for record breaking contracts.  Bengals who just shelled out for Burrow, Chase, Higgins record breaking contracts probably not in position to have the highest paid DE in NFL.  So sign the #1 draft pick and move on.  Bengals players have said they don't blame front office over Hendrickson contract, but Bengals players do side with the #1 draft pick and say front office is wrong on him.

If they sign the #1 pick DE, and trade Hendrickson, might be the only move and the smart move. There is an NFL free agent from Detroit Lions who could maybe be brought in not the expensive to help the D Line if they sign the Top Pick and trade Trey. Isn't the goal to go back to Super Bowl, not to see Mike Brown be stubborn and have both sit out and no chance of Super Bowl.

It's wishful thinking to say both are playing for Bengals in 2025. That is total denial of how bad the contract negotiations are going.  I want Bengals back in Super Bowl.  If neither play, I can hear fans complaining about Golden when the defense is awful, but I will be blaming Mike Brown and Family, not Golden.

With their offense, they do not need the best defense, but they can't continue to have one of the worst defenses either.

No offense..but you I nor anyone else knows how contract negotiations are going..nor do any beat writers or national sportscasters...I seriously dont get why people think one or two players( aside from the qb position)will determine the fate of the entire team.Lou was immediately let go..they acquired good players in the draft and FA..either the defense..as a whole plays better ..with or without hendrickson is the key..we will know more in three weeks and this speculation has grown old

Double standard? The guys picked before and after Stewart have the language in their contracts.

Explain it please….

Yeah I read the USA article that stated, many teams have the same language in their contracts and had no problems signing their player. I am at the point of not really caring if this joke ever signs.

I believe both players being unsigned can be blamed on some combo of FO, player, agent. How that pie looks, i don’t know.

I assume the biggest blame bengals can bear is communication, or lack thereof. But this is just speculation.

The #16 & #18 players have the same language Stewart is balking at. End of story. Trey has no leg to stand on other than depending on which side is telling the truth. Correct or not the Bengals led Trey to believe they’d take care of him. Then with the signing of Tee & Chase their piddling around jumped the dollars. On the other hand Trey wants to be paid more than he’s worth. You’ve seen it. This stuff gets done when camp comes.

To those that keep saying don't worry, they will play, they have no choice but to play, Bengals front office has everything under control.  I repeat that is wishful thinking.  I want Bengals to win, but it would be a lie if I said Mike Brown and front office have everything under control and contract problems are over, and everybody will be in camp and preseason getting ready for a Super Bowl run. That would be a lie for me to say that.  As much as I want Bengals to win, Mike Brown and front office need to get with it before camp starts this month.  Super Bowl runs begin the first day of camp.  They need to get this contract garbage over with and have a camp focusing on winning games only. Winning first game of regular season instead of losing in September and then trying to play catch up. It would be a lie for me to say everything is fine and Hendrickson and the #1 pick are both definitely playing for Bengals.  As of now they are not playing this season, and Mike Brown and Family will lose again this season if they don't solve this so team can focus on practice and training and not contracts. It's just wishful thinking and denial to say everything is fine with Hendrickson and top pick and they are playing.  Bengals front office is now into July and they really need to get with it now, or else they will start the season losing as usual.
