- Exclusive: The team has the sole right to negotiate with the player, and the salary is higher.
- Non-Exclusive: The player can negotiate with other teams, but the original team has the right to match any offer or receive two first-round draft picks as compensation if the player signs with another team.
But it is a very steep price i doubt anyone would pay (or if they were worth it allow that player to hit the market to begin with) as 2 1st are even more valuable now with the 5th year option.
They are easy to mix up but yes Higgins was given the non-exclusive tag. It is actually rather rare for a team to use the exclusive tag.
