Preston Brown signs with the Bengals

Brown looks to be a pure 4-3 MIKE backer, a solid guy with solid production. He’s never missed a game in his four seasons, he never comes off the field (he could team with Burfict in the nickel package) and they love the leadership skills he displayed in Buffalo after arriving as a third-round pick.

younghome town kid who is a tackeling machine... love the sign....much better player than minter.  Still need to address linebacker early with burfict yet again being susoended

I actually just caught this signing. I missed it with Burfict pulling his usual antics. This seems like a good signing. Good job Mike Brown! It’s hard to believe that I’ve said that twice in the same week, of the same year even.

Man this one has me feeling good about next season.

A usable OL, an even better defense, good offensive targets. Man, this is looking up.

This sounds like a Vontaze Burfict replacement to me - I do like the signing

Ok guys, I need a little help here. Am I surprised by the signing? Yes. Is he our second best lb? Most likely. Is it an upgrade at a position that needs one? Yes. I've seen some of the stats listed in this thread. So I do like the move.

But a lot of the sites had him in about the middle of the rankings for best available free agents. And there were quite a few lbs rated higher.

So what were they wrong about with this guy?

I must be living in a alternate world.

Or maybe Mikey Brown really died two weeks ago and the movie Weekend at Bernie's just happens to be Katie's favorite movie of all time and she's now rejoicing at being able to act it out in real life.

Or maybe Mikey boy just got tied of us all making fun of him for being a dickhe@d.

Whatever the reason for the Bengals suddenly not sucking ass in the off season I'm glad.

I'm pumped about this. Finally some maturity at the position. He's all business much like Vinney Rey just better. We needed a solid mlb.I thought it was Minter last year but even healthy he was a disappointment. Brown is a tackling machine .We got a big big upgrade at the position. So far free agency has been Mickey Ds,,,,I'm lovin it

I seriously am thinking maybe Mike did turn over some more power to Marvin or maybe Duke Tobin and Katie are looking at the list Marvin made out and said this is what I want.Either way the fans FINALLY reaping the benefits of a great free agency so far.Just wish Browns contract wasn't for just 1 year. Its a make or break year for us with all the 1 year contracts along with Geno and Dunlap coming up.We gotta get it done this year because next year there's not enough cap to go around.

From everything I've read, he's not a superstar...just a high quality LB. A better Minter. NFL.com had him as the 51st best available FA, but keep in mind how many FA's there are. For example, Brown checked in ahead of Josh Sitton, Jordy Nelson, Sheldon Richardson and many other very good players on that list.

Brown is that "mid-tier" guy we always ask for and rarely get in FA. Baker was a sneaky good signing as well. Obviously Cordy Glenn is still the best player we brought in and I'm honestly still in shock over that one.

He is solid but we still need more help there in draft because of Burficts unpredictability and being targeted by league as well.

MLBs are always ranked behind pass rush 3-4 OLBs.

I like it too, but don't fool yourself.  He's not a Burfict "replacement".  Vontaze is likely the best linebacker this team has had in it's history.  Brown is a signing they had to make to mitigate the risk that Burfict brings.

I look forward to seeing them on the field together.  I'd also still draft a linebacker high or sign another vet.

Bengals are doing a very good job thus far. Definitely better than the last few years.

That said, this is a good signing. Dude is only 25, and is very solid. The only drawback is that he was signed to a 1 year deal.

Wow wow wow. Up until Suh and honey badger were released this was the #1 available guy i wanted.

I had an extremely happy 15 minutes yesterday when i first saw this. Then the Burfict news came.

Getting Glenn filled my #1 concern. Getting Preston addressed our #2 weakness. And giving Eifert back helped our other major weakness.

I hope westerman redman or fisher are options at C but we do have 11 draft picks

Bengals site says Brown’s deal was $5 mill. Pretty solid. I really hope he does well this year and can get extended. Tired of these continuous 1-year rentals.

Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. If he can turn this into a playoff appearance, it will be impressive.

Sorry for Party Rocking!

This guy is not a question mark like Minter was. He is solid, i agree with everyone that these one year deals like this
kind of make me wonder but Preston Brown wanted to be here in his hometown.

I think there was some sort of agreement that a multiple year deal will be on the table when we get some more things
done. Just not at this very moment.

Yeah.  The Bengals will have an ungodly number of FA's next year.

He seems to be a natural leader as well who could really help out our young guys get better.

Pretty awesome. Think we should really look to give this guy a long term contract.

Saw that about his diet on youtube. Looks like we got a top tier FA in their prime. Don't remember this happening.

We got Glenn, Preston and Baker all while they are still relatively young.

I agree. Besides Burfict, nobody looks behind the line and finds a way to get there. Brown's clip suggests he does that. He's really good in space. Reminds me A LOT of Burfict, perhaps with less aggressive tendencies (both good and bad).
