Same thing that happens now when we check to a run out of a 4 WR set or check to a pass with a 12 personnel group. Every NFL team ALREADY switches personnel groups for passing situations. Defenses already bring in different linemen. My question is why shouldn't offenses do the same thing.

Now not many years ago we did rotate a few of our OL spots.. I cant remember the year or the guys anymore but when we didn't have top flight talent and needed to keep guys fresh. so it could be a possibility.. But it could also end up being a hard tell if certain linemen are only on certain play types. where as Defense do switch and can get caught with wrong personel on the field etc.. The real downside here fred is we are having trouble finding 5 quality OL guys.... who would you want coming in off the bench to replace one of them if they couldn't beat them in the first place for the job?

Are you talking just for a play in a critical situation, or are talking about having essentially two "platoons" of OL that rotate in and out as dictated by down and distance, like with DL? As has been said i am sure the O-line needs to have chemistry and you don't want to show your hand to what the Offense is doing. Makes it much easier for the Defense when you do this. Just need to have versatile O-lineman who can both pass and run block. Bottom line just start your best 5 O-lineman.

I am talking about a regular sub package just like they already have for almost every other position group. I keep hearing how some of the guys we have are better pass blockers and some others are better pass blockers. Since we already sub in an extra WR on passing downs then why not bring in the o-linemen that are better pass blockers. |
