So you are assuming he can play right tackle at same level.. there are guys in the NFL that don;t transfer as well .. mind and body are connected... so it does make it a bit more difficult to transition..
My point is i prefer to draft a player that we have tape on and has played that position especially this high of pick.. I see other more specific RTs i would like in 3rd or trade back , get them later in 2nd and pick a extra pick maybe in 3 for sure 4th to add more depth in other positions of need

The internal line was weird there for a few years, save for Bobbie.
Looking back I see that Levi did not get his contract extension until after the '06 draft. So I'd say they drafted Whit to play wherever they were going to have a need. If they could not have worked out a deal with Jones they may have extended steinbach.

Would you want to spend #33 overall on a RG? There is a lot of difference of opinion on Jones, and that scares me a bit. His level of competition was pathetic. Their toughest opponent was Oklahoma (the rest sucked) and Oklahoma doesn't have any high draft picks coming out of that defensive end roster. Why take him when there is potentially first round talent available? Mims was referred to as first round talent by many after the Senior Bowl, and I still can't believe I am the only one that thinks Claypool is a first round talent. I seem to be on an island on that one.
After Mims, Claypool, Higgins, and Pittman, I see a substantial dropoff at WR talent. I don't think any of those guys are available in Rd 3. Yet I see lots of talent at LB that could start in our nickel package immediately. And there is guard talent that could compete at RG to be had in Rd 4.
I agree with most of what you say but I actually see the opposite on WR and LB.. the drop off is greater at LB.. there are going to be some very fine WRs in 3rd round I believe.. Hill from OSU and Jefferson Fla and Pittman could still be there in 3rd round also...

I’m telling you in our scheme it makes no difference. In a zone blocking scheme the RT and LT are going to step down both directions anyways. Pass blocking makes a little difference but you start him at RG where it’s an easier transition then the kick out to RT is no issue at all.

I know you don’t like him. I’m not going to argue with you.
Jones can start at RT and would give the team bookend tackles for the next 4 years. I’ve read and watched enough tape to be confident in that.
Never mind not liking the guy, I've never heard of him?? Wilsonnfir??

Going strictly on talent, Swift would be the guy. But we in no way need a RB. If Swift is the pick, Bio is pretty much gone.
Since Zac said the guy taken at 33 would be a starter, that would pretty much rule out a back unless they are through with Mixon.

As for WR it’s a tough read, I don’t know if the team sees it as a pressing need right now. Taylor said whoever they take at 33 needs to be a starter and no WR is starting this year and their reps are probably limited in a currently crowded room which makes me wonder if 33 and WR go together in the staffs mind.
65 is the perfect spot for a Lb as some combination of Logan Wilson, Willie Gay, Davis-Gaithersburg, and Malik Harrison should be there. I don’t think any stand out head and shoulders above so I’d take any.
I really like Laviska Shenault in that outside receiver role opposite of AJ Green. Use him as mostly the motion Z but can move up to the line to play the X when you want to move AJ around.
Interesting fact about Shenault his 4.98 yards per route vs man coverage is the best of any WR in the draft class over the past 2 seasons.

I would like to see Zack Baun. Solid LB in a solid conference and addresses a much needed weakness. This pick is too high to gamble that Jones will be able to transition to RT. Would be a huge mistake to take a guy that might only be a backup LT for most of his career.

I am excited about Pratt, but we are still talking "potential" with him, and BYnes is a 30 year old career backup who has been cut in year two of every multiyear contract he has signed after his rookie deal.
I want Baun, but in today's NFL OL may be more important than LB. So maybe Jones.
Good call. Flip a coin.
I never thought Brooks would go in 1. So maybe we take Willie Gay Jr here?
I don't rule out trading back.
Today I'm TEAM SEWELL. Tomorrow TEAM PITTS. Maybe TEAM CHASE. I can't decide, and glad I don't have to.

I know the team needs and LB is certainly one of them but I just have a very strong inclination the next pick will be one that supports Burrow be it on the OL or a WR. If trading down a few slots (not too many) can yield another 3rd or 4th that would be the first preference. Jones is very enticing but I just feel you can wait to pick up quality OL in later rounds. Bryan Edwards and Van Jefferson should be available in round 3 and both are extremely solid WRs if the Bengals do go OL in round 2. The only route runner better in the draft than Van Jefferson is Jerry Jeudy so he would be my preference.
I said it in an earlier thread a few weeks ago that the guy I run to the podium for if he slips out of round 1 is Tee Higgins so that's where I feel the Bengals should go. I get the lack of physicality and elite speed but AJ Green didn't have elite speed either. What stands out with Higgins is the same thing I saw from Green when he was playing at Georgia and it's how he goes to get the ball and how he makes the extremely tough catches. Mims and Pittman are certainly physical specimens with better speed than Higgins. I'm always guy shy of Baylor WRs (I know it was a different system under Ruhle) and the Big 12 minus 2 does not exactly play great defense. I know less about Pittman other than what I've ready since the PAC 12 bores me so I rarely watch. Claypool has enormous upside but he would appears to be more of a project. Higgins has the clout and just appears to be the the best WR available. Clemson WRs have done quite well in the NFL so take Higgins and Burrow will certainly be appreciative.

I think Baun will be the pick. The Bengals will like the versatility that he brings.

I know we need a LBer, but we better grab the best Oline player we can, because while 30 other teams will be trying to get to Burrow when we play them, Shitsburgh will be trying to end his career.

I would prefer not to trade down. Stick to your board be it LB, OL, or WR. There are still options at all three. I prefer Jones who is the 5th rated OT on my board behind Becton, Thomas, Wirfs, and Willis. It's not bad value there. I have him ahead of both Jackson and Wilson who have already been picked. Jones plays with a bit of a nasty demeanor thru the end of the whistle type.
If you really want to go crazy, I'd consider Chinn, who might be the best available athlete on the board.

For anyone worried about Josh Jones arm length...he is just over 3mm shorter arm length than Wirfs.
Josh Jones - 33 7/8
Tristan Wirfs - 34
Austin Jackson - 34 1/8
Don't think that will prevent him from being a great OT in NFL

Tobin said whoever they pick at #33 will be a starter so in my mind that leaves us with
Jones
Baun
Winfield (We cut Shawn Williams)
Epenesa (spilt 5T snaps with Geno)
Or we trade down and target Cushenberry, Logan Wilson, and Willie Gay

With Bates and Bell we seem pretty set at Safety. At least it's not a position of need where Winfield would be a starter. Being a starter seems like Baun or Maybe Jones. Baun seems like the safest.
As an aside, I do college fantasy football and for the last two years have had Shenault. He is insanely talented but our record on drafting injured players is not good.

I understand your point, but there are a lot of NFL RTs and OGs that played LT in college just because they were the best O-lineman on the team.

It makes a difference in every scheme. It's like batting right handed vs. batting left handed. I didn't think it was a big deal until a line coach was on Moving the Chains and talked about it.

It's only a big deal if they don't have time to prepare. Its muscle memory so if you changing sides it takes some time to get used to every being opposite but as for actually changing it isnt a big deal.
During the season though it's tough when they get flipped to the other side. You will hear players say it's easier to go from LG to LT than LG to RT.
