He did have a batted pass on a crucial down late in the Eagles game but I do agree he could be more consistent/motivated better.
Edit: In fact I recall having seen him out of position or missing tackles during games, so yeah, I agree he's been bad.

If he's going to playing over 50% then why doesn't take a midol and keep his mouth shut?
This now the 2nd time in the last few months he's come out publically complained about the team. The first being when he decided to blast the team for not doing more for racial equality.
I'd suggest he'd be thankful he's making 11 million depsite having zero sacks this far, and try to focus on improving his play so his name is back atop the chart. Until then, try being a little bit team player and at least keep your bitching to behind close doors. Or better yet, don't ***** at all.
Lack of productivity and the above bolded seems to be Carlos' downfall this year. Without getting political, I thought there might be a simmering problem with the way Carlos "PUBLICALLY demanded" a meeting with MB because he didn't feel the Bengals were doing enough in the "defund systemic rascism" department...
JMHO.

For people who are compaining that not telling him was stupid, or classless, or whatever, I think you're missing some things.
1.) They discussed this, at some level, in the offseason. He mentions this in the video. Apparently he had a conversation with his postion coach about it (moving to third down in some packages).
2.) They did just tell him, when they posted the depth chart. Maybe they intended on having further discussions or a conversation with him later today. (We don't know)
3.) This is a one-sided, limited explanation of the situation, from a player that is clearly frustrated. Kinda not fair to label the staff as being stupid or classless, without knowing the details or their side of the story.
4.) We have no clue what went all into this decision. Maybe his effort has been poor, maybe this has been building and he's been made aware his role was in jeopardy of being changed.
5.) We don't know when this decison was finally made. Some of you are saying they should have told him Tues or Weds. Maybe they didn't know Tues or Weds. Maybe they just had a meeting and decided this morning.
6.) Depth charts are a part of football, for every team and every player. Posting them is not unique to us.
7.) The team didn't make this "public", Carlos did. From the very begining of hsi interview he immediately brought it up. Even the team's beat reporter didn't know.
To each their own, but this sounds like nothing but sour grapes to me. And to air it out in the way he did seemed both pathetic and childish. I've faulted Zac Taylor, Lou and Co. for many things. But I can't believe so many are questioning a routine occurance in this game. Guys occassionaly lose their spots, and the staff doesn't have to hold veteran's hands throughout the process and make sure their feeling aren't hurt.

Right after Carlos said he wasn't told anything, in the very next sentence, he gives the reason he's not starting. He said he put 2 and 2 together, so I'm sure his lack of production in the run game had been discussed leading up to this, and he knew it was a specialized defensive game plan for Jackson and the Ravens. While he obviously doesn't like or agree with the move, which I get, I don't think Carlos was quite as surprised as he's letting on that the move happened.

I love Carlos but its time to do something different. Maybe this lights a fire under his butt.
While they’re at it they need to light a fire under a couple more butts. That would be AJ and Geno.

If Lamar Jackson was a traditional pocket passer then starting Carlos Dunlap makes sense — but he isn’t. To contain Lamar the defense needs the fastest eleven guys on the field, period. Carlos will come in on obvious passing situations but I think Carl Lawson or Sam Hubbard are better first and second down players against the Baltimore offense.
Carlos Dunlap was a monster against Joe Flacco but Joe isn’t a Raven anymore. Props to Lou Anarumo for proactively game planning against a very unusual offense.

"Starts" are a purely ceremonial thing anyway. You could play a guy for 1 snap and then take him out of the game for the rest of the game and he'd be the "starter." The important thing is number of snaps and, in that regard, Lawson needs as many as they can find for him.

This is the kind of thing that can actually extend a guys career. Maybe he becomes a stud pass-rush specialist now that he gets more rested during the games?

I don't see an issue here and I'm surprised Dunlap is complaining in SM like he is. First, that's not what you do if your a leader. You take it for what it is and try to earn the start back. Complaining doesn't do anything but question the coaches judgement. However, since Carlos is from the Marvin era, it doesn't surprise me because Marvin was loyal to his vets even when they were not performing well. It's not a time to *****, it's a time to grind. We are 1-2-1 and Zac's going to do what he has to for this team to turn it around. If you want it back, put your phone down and go get it.

I agree.
It makes it hard to tell what is really going on here.
Many times a veteran will get his playing time reduced but still be the "starter".
And many times a veteran will not make any comment when his playing time gets reduced.
I have always been a big supporter of Dunlap, but it seems like there may be some "friction" behind the scenes.

If he had some kind of a start streak in jeopardy I could see him being upset. That ended last year I think?
Suck it up and be a team player. He will be on the field plenty. Make some noise there.
Glad to see the coaches holding players accountable.

Me too, especially after Dunlap's comments. Have always backed Dunlap but he has not been getting it done.
Like the move and hope he gets better about it till he proves he still has it and doesn't just over pursue.
He can be a good pass rusher at times, (I hope) but Lawson and Hubbard have both been better at stopping the run and rushing
the passer. I could see a Dunlap trade for sure after hearing this. Always will love Los, but this is the way things work man.

Yeah, it's a strange thing of being the first on. If the offense opens in five wide, do certain people not become a starter due to the alignments? Be an impact when you are in there and you get the rep and money; screw the "starter or not" thing.

It is stupid, like Dunlap's comments honestly. We need to be better at stopping the run and keeping Lamar in the pocket.
Dunlap has been over pursuing like crazy.
Brilliant move by Lou, dumb comments by Dunlap, period.

It's not like Lawson is Cal Ripken or something. Carlos could be right back in the starting lineup very quickly. I don't like him airing this out in public... Do something about it, and change it.
I'm gonna break every record they've got. I'm tellin' you right now. I don't know how I'm gonna do it, but it's goin' to get done.

But sometimes it matters to their income. There are often incentives in a contract related to starts.
With that said, I could care less about starts to any position but QB and K (no team has ever punted on first down to open a game, otherwise LS and P would be in there too). Hopefully this means Carlos can have fresh legs on passing downs to pin his ears back and get after Lamar.

Yep, everything about it is pretty damn dumb.
