Chase not Practicing

This is borderline comical, we're going to be 15 minutes before gametime and the announcement will be from both sides they both anticipate Chase to play but will plan accordingly if not.

Wish I could go into my work with 2 years left on my contract and demand a raise or I won't work. Some of these athletes are ridiculously greedy. He's already a millionaire and he signed the contract he currently has. I would love to watch him play but there's a small part of me that would also love to see the organization make him stick to his current contract or sit out the next 2 years. His career would basically be done, at least a good part of his prime career would be.

It's a very dangerous situation IMO.  The Pats have nothing to lose.  They're undoubtedly going to test our run defense.  Maybe we can stack the box and take it away given their weak passing game..... but therein lies the danger.  Those are still NFL athletes on a NFL roster.  If they get the Jesus in them for a few series and somehow make the defense respect the pass, there's a potential issue.

I'm super interested to see what the new passing game coordinator adds to the gameplay.  The brought Rascati in for a reason.  There's talk that he's going to do things out of the backfield that we haven't seen in the Burrow era.  Would be a nice time to see it in practice.  

This would be a heck of a game for Chase Brown to introduce himself to the league in a big way.

As mentioned, I haven't listened to any of the pressers. If he really stated "he'll decide"  if he plays or not. then the coaching staff would lose a bit of respect from me if they didn't immediately take that decision out of his hands.

Patriots oline is beat up, at least 2 starters are apparently not playing.   If they run all over us we are screwed the rest of the season.

Im hoping that Chase is communicating with Zac daily and that Chase simply did a terrible job with his locker room interview with reporters.  He contradicted himself several times, he was obviously trying very hard to not lean one way or the other.

Well you should have became a professional athlete than instead of whatever you are.  And notwithstanding the PR shitstorm that would create for the Bengals, I guarantee his career would not be over if he just sits the next two years.

I wish I was a professional athlete. I had potential but 1 shoulder and 4 knee surgeries killed that chance. Now I'm just old and walk with a limp.

If Bengals say he is not playing, he gets a game check.

It is not a good sign we added Pryor, that tells me Yoshi may not play special teams so they can use it for most of the offensive snaps.

I may be wrong, but no contract may mean Chase sits.

At this point, I think he's sitting.  

The interesting part will be if the Bengals shut down negotiations when games start being played.  This is normally their course of action.  

If/when that happens, what does Chase do to respond?

I don't like this at all.

This happens all the time in professional sports, especially the NFL. He’s not greedy. He’s worth what he’s asking. Just because “hes made millions”, doesn’t mean he isn’t worth 20x that. If he was a free agent, he would have multiple suitors and probably the highest paid non QB in the league. Does it suck for us fans? Sure does. But I hold nothing against him. Technically he has 2 years left but that’s his rookie contract. Not like he was going to just not play in the nfl because he didn’t like the terms. CBA slots these guys to their contracts based on draft order. Chase has proven he’s an elite nfl player and plays a position that simply gets paid. He’s probably a year early, but who am I to say he shouldn’t hold out for a guaranteed contract. I don’t wish him ill. I don’t wish the bengals ill. They’re both going to do what’s best for them now and long term.


I also didn’t have ill well against Carson when he refused to play. So at least I’m consistent lol

Bailing out of contracts whenever you feel like it is terrible for the league and should be open to lawsuit for breach of contract just like anyone else.

Imagine if you bought Bengals tickets but then the team cancelled the game because they thought the ticket price was too low. Would you just pay more because they wanted more than the agreed upon price?

So I doubt it happens, but in the hypothetical world, I have to ask: What does Chase get this team in trade?  He wants, apparently a lot more than JJ.  We all had Jefferson costing multiple firsts and then some.

If things get completely sideways, would you rather have Chase eating up 37 mil in cap every year or a couple more first rounders making peanuts for a few seasons?  The young guys seem much more valuable to me.

It's painful, but it might be the smart play.  We reaped his productive rookie years.  Churn him out like in baseball and put another franchise on the hook for his asking price.  Cycle in some young, hungry guys for our 50m qb, then do it again in  3 years.  

This stuff sucks right now.  It's going to suck worse when we end the year with a glaring need.  Maybe an OL.  Probably a DT.  Likely a pass rusher.  Maybe we can't afford to keep CTB.  Things will tighten up cap-wise when these guys get their money.

A deal will make the current drama go away.  It will materialize again when the offseason gets here and the team cries poor due to the guaranteed money they've tied up in 2 players.  

Resentment is born this week.  It metastasizes in time.  The only cure is a title.  Beyond that, Chase may be shitting on his legacy in a way that can't be reversed.

Being a rookie contract makes it a bit different as you can negotiate after 3yrs. It seems more and more teams are taking care of star players earlier. I think blame lays on both sides on this one.

Yoshi was the #3 receiver but maybe Jones or Irwin

If no Higgins and Chase, Yoshi becomes our #1 WR is my guess. 

We may play more 2 TE sets, but someone has to the 40 to 50 snaps for each Tee and for Chase if he does not play.

The owners negotiated the CBA and agreed to a system where players can get an extension after the third year of their rookie contract. Not only that, they agreed to a CBA where only players who are on their rookie contracts can get their holdout fines forgiven.

Players are cut while under contract all of the time. People and their "lawsuit" solution, lol.

You don't have to imagine, the Bengals keep raising season ticket prices. You had season tickets last year, the year before, and the year before? Well every single year you have to pay more to keep them. Try and "put your foot down" to squash the nonsense of Mike Brown wanting more money from you every year for the same seats.
