53 man roster projection

We are only allowed 8 players on the IR that can return for the season.  Why are we wasting one of those 8 spots on Brad Robbins?

The DT room right now is Hill, Rankins, Jenkins and Tufele with Jackson still rehabbing.

The DE room seems to be Johnson, Ossai and Carter backing up Hendrickson and Hubbard. My guess is Carter is on a leash that gets cut when Myles Murphy returns.

Because they dont trust Rehkow, this is Robbins screwing us before the season even starts.  There is zero doubt we will have needed that slot later in the season.

Carter is a DT.  We have 6 DTs and 4 edges on the current 53.

Well we’ve never been able to bring back that many before. So hopefully we use them. If someone gets dinged and may miss up to 4 weeks hopefully we IR them instead of preparing and playing short handed.

Glad they are letting Murphy get healthy. And I don’t mind using one on Robbins who we spent a draft pick on. If Rehkow struggles we plug our draft pick back in instead of shaking up the kicking game mid season.

Yep. We have 6 to go.

The only conclusion is that he would have been the starter if he hadn't gotten hurt.

Really, injuries that oast for more than 4 weeks but are not season ending are not that common. And we get +2 for the POs.

Using PS callups to cover for a guy who is out longer but coming back is an option. If the player is THAT important, you can just eat the soot in the 53 while he recovers if you are out of IR returns.

Zach Carter played mostly edge in college I'm not suggesting moving him there but if the Bengals don't add another LDE I can see him getting reps there until Myles Murphy returns.
I have the Heart of a Lion! I also have a massive fine and a lifetime ban from the Pittsburgh Zoo...

They like Zac Carter cause he can play DT and DE

The issue is he plays neither exceptionally well so it’s like why do i care if you can do 2 jobs below average

Give me a guy who plays one well enough

Carter has not played edge since college.  No way in the world do I put him outside unless we lose every DE on the roster and on the practice squad.  The guy simply isnt NFL caliber.  If we pick up a decent waiver wire guy and Jackson is still injured, I can see them keeping Tufele and cutting Carter.

Because he was punting well in training camp and winning the job

I think our DL room has some solid pieces.

Hendrickson is all pro, Hubbard will bounce back and be fine that he's healthy, Murphy has upside.

I like Rankin's. I think BJ Hill is overrated. The depth there is bad. I just really worry about the middle of our defensive line.

That is what I think the plan is - either a decent waiver guy or when Murphy returns Carter is gone.

Biggest concerns

NT- We have one on the roster and he is hurt. Oh, and he is a Rookie.

CB2- anyone else worried that Dax is more feel good camp story then an actual worthy starting CB?

Jessie Bates left the Bengals and that makes me sad!

I’m more worried about the lack of DE depth than CB2. Having the 2 vet safeties back there should help Dax and the secondary. But it is just paper thin behind Hendrickson and Hubbard on the edge. And Lou tends to overplay those guys as it is. Going to need a big year from Ossai.

*and Murphy once he gets back

I think they consider Tufele a NT, and Jackson has a long way to go before he is ready to play regularly, IMO.

Not just hurt.. out of camp; not a single snap in a preseason game.  In the last 2 preseason games (I can't find TB) 80% of the DTs snaps went to players no longer on the team.

I thought they'd stick with Robbins if they wanted to and just call the rookie up from the practice squad for the first couple weeks. I know you can only protect a player 3 times I think, but who really was going to steal a punter.

I dont think Robbins is close to being ready for the first couple of games.  No way they risk losing Rehkow by cutting him with hopes of signing him to the PS, no matter how slim it may be, one week before the first game.  Unless he has a good showing these next 4 weeks he will likely be cut outright when Robbins returns.
