At least as far ass Chase goes, Zac is doing what he needs to do by keeping himself out of contract discussions. That's not a HC's job. His players won't respect Zac for him trying to interfere with a player getting paid, because all of them are players who will want to be paid at some point so it'll actually create hostility. Not to mention if he did speak up the HC is speaking from a position where he always has a fully guaranteed contract unlike the players so it looks even worse if he tries to get in the way of players trying to get paid.

It's the same reason why you're generally not going to ever find teammates that will speak out about Chase either. When it comes to other people's money, don't get involved. That's between the player, agent, and FO.

Besides, Chase wasn't the problem in that game. He caught every target he got, led the team in receptions, yards, and yards per reception. Chase didn't create the scheme and call the plays that meant that nobody else on the Bengals averaged more than 9 yards per catch or even reached 30 receiving yards. He didn't fumble the ball any of the 3 times or drop a TD. He didn't run out of the pocket and into a sack, or allow someone to beat him for a sack. He didn't drop an INT, or miss multiple sacks, or let Rhamondre Stevenson run all over them..... so really in this instance talking about Chase is just a distraction from the 20 other things that DID lose us the game.

Oh Mike Brown, Mike Brown, you and your Mike Brown.   I blame Mike Brown and The Front Office as much as anybody.  The Front Office job in the off season is to get the off season stuff off the table. so the team can be focused on football week one.  I'm sick of hearing how great Mike Brown is.  He is no Paul Brown, and the apple fell too far from the tree.
