I was listening to NFL Network on my way to work this morning and they indicated that the NFL called the Bengals and apologized for the missed call on the replay review of the Mike Gesicki touchdown that was overturned. They said it didn't affect the outcome of the game, but I disagree. But for the blown call, the Hudson fumble would not have happened, and the scoreboard would have flipped. Anyway, thanks for the apology NFL!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Regardless, we played like dog crap and as usual can't stop the run. If we can't stop the Pats run game, how are we going to do with the AFC North?

They are saying it should have remained a TD?
Based on what?
The ball clearly was moving after he hit the ground and landed OOB, even if it didn't touch the ground.
But wasn't that the drive that resulted in a turnover right after this called drop by Gesicki?
If so, it most definitely would have affected the outcome of the game because it would have been +7 points in favor of the Bengals and could have been 17-16 Bengals at the end.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. If he can turn this into a playoff appearance, it will be impressive.

Yes. They apologized. Should have remained a touchdown. He had control of the ball tucked into his stomach after his elbow had hit the ground. Said the field referee was right and replay booth missed it.
Also, not enough irrefutable evidence to overturn call on the field.
I think the Bengals should be raising all kinds of hell about taking a touchdown off the board in an ugly game.

Oh, yeah, in a game where we lost by 6 points a TD-that-wasn't didn't affect the outcome of the game, suuuuuuuuuuuuuure.

I don't see anything online about an NFL apology. If they apologized, it would be big news. I guess it's possible that they have not yet publicly released the apology, but it's also possible whoever you were listening to was spreading an unsubstantiated rumor.
I was watching on a small screen so I couldn't really tell if the initial call, or overturn decision, were correct.

I thought it was a catch. And a great one at that. He had control and was down at the point of contact.

I feel vindicated, as several told me I was wrong when I pointed out that it should have stood as called.

It was clear as day that he didn’t maintain possession.

Yup. The rules clearly state you you have to maintain possession all the way through the catch.
Still haven't seen anything. You'd think the mother ship would be all over it, if legit.

No, I heard it on the NFL channel on the way to work as well. They do not spread unsubstantiated rumors without clarifying that. His elbow was down. It should have remained a touchdown

I honestly didn't think it was a TD at the time but it sure would have been a game changer.
Too little too late.

Correct. Every replay they showed prior to the last one after the commercial break showed it as catch but the last relay after the break clearly showed it as incomplete.

The good teams overcome shyt like that. I guessed on the game thread they would score 10pts. I win a cookie.

That's what I thought too because he was going out of bounds after ball came loose when hitting the ground and he didn't retain possession before going out. (at least thats what I remember of the replay, because I cant find the replay of the replay anywhere)
Or maybe the rule of the rule of the rule says as long as the ball doesn't touch ground, he can gain control of ball again regardless of going out of bounds if he had at least 2 feet or a non-hand body part down first? I honestly don't know if in fact that is a TD.

Well the league office disagrees with you. If it were even close they wouldn't have said anything

So what is a catch, specifically in the endzone nowadays? Can the bar jar loose after the elbow hits?

I don't know what they are specifically apologizing for, but that was in no way a touchdown. The receiver has to survive the catch and a specific body part such as a knee, elbow or otherwise touching does not negate this fact. Here is the link to the NFL rulebook. Here is the excerpt that very explicitly and clearly outlines this...
Quote:If a player, who satisfied (a) and (b), but has not satisfied ©, contacts the ground and loses control of the ball, it is an incomplete pass if the ball hits the ground before he regains control, or if he regains control out of bounds
Here is the loss of control...
And here is the ball touching the ground....
This a very clear incomplete pass.
