Screen Game?
#1
Why does our screen game suck every year?

There were about three screens sniffed out in the Chiefs game where Burrow has to spike the ball or just throw it down field.

I'd love to get Chase Brown the ball more in these situations and in space more, but it seems like we are just incapable of running good screen plays.

What's the deal here? Play design? Players tipping/not selling it?

In one of the screens yesterday the announcers said Chris Jones, as soon as he saw no one was blocking him, realized it was a screen play and broke it up.

It could be a combination of play design, when they are being called, and not enough practice with the limited time they have. I think those that on the inside probably know this answer the best tho.

Don’t know but Jones was unblocked and knew immediately it was a screen. Not every DT could have or would have made that play. KC was defending it well.
Romo “ so impressed with Zac ...1 of the best in the NFL… they are just fundamentally sound. Taylor the best winning % in the Playoffs of current coaches. Joe Burrow” Zac is the best head coach in the NFL & that gives me a lot of confidence." Taylor led the Bengals to their first playoff win since 1990, ending the longest active drought in the four major North American sports, en and appeared in Super Bowl LVI, the first since 1988.

KC was ready for the screens. Good teams prepare and defend well. KC and Spag have really improved there. But we held Kelce to 1 catch 6 yards and Mahomes his lowest passing yards as a starter ever.

After seeing all the short passes in the NE game, it was easy to gameplan for by KC.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. If he can turn this into a playoff appearance, it will be impressive.

Sorry for Party Rocking!

The Kelce/Mahomes dynamic is going to be so interesting to watch going forward.

Kelce looks like a shell of himself and is aging. Mahomes relied on him for so much. It's fair to see how it's going to effect Mahomes going forward.

Going into the Super Bowl, the Rams were dead last defending screen passes. We did not try a single screen that game.

For some reason the Bengals throw screens and don’t have blockers set up.

On the one Cappa and someone else were out front blocking but just completely whiffed and stood there.

I think a lot of it comes down to the athleticism of our OL. Hard for them to pull and get out in space to block.

Something related is that Tony Romo taught me something. On the screen Jones blew up Burrow just spiked the ball into the ground and was under no pressure. I thought to myself "Why didn't he at least try to make a play" Romo heard my thoughts and said "At that point, you have no choice but to spike it or you're going to get called for linemen downfield.

I missed that but very good point by Romo. Thanks for pointing it out.

I pass caught for 5 yards, but the TV cameras still found many opportunities to highlight Taylor Swift in the VIP box hugging and jumping up and down thinking Kelce was doing fantastic.

We were very good on screens last year, don't know what you are talking about here. Against the Chiefs Chris Jones was just sniffing them out.

The data has shown that the Bengals have been one of the worst screen teams in the NFL over the past few years.

This but Mims will help that.

Some of our biggest plays last year were in the Screen game to our RB's, namely Chase Brown on that one screen where he hit nearly 23 mph.

Surprised the data shows this honestly, agree that it has been bad this year though.

Sure would like to see the athleticism of Mims out there on screens that is for sure.

Age is undefeated. I wonder if a bit of it has to do with him being more focused on his podcast and billionaire girlfriend than the game. Not saying I would do any better with staying motivated with already having 3 rings, probably way over $100m (he's nearly there just from his NFL contracts), and now hyper-fame, so no real judgement there, just wondering.
