Yep I get it.
But there's not a SAF worth picking that early.
So if wanting a SAF in 1st round (again), gotta trade back or pick an OL/DL early and then trade back up into the mid-late 1st round to get a SAF.
I don't think Bengals will end up picking Top 5 though by the time the season ends.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. If he can turn this into a playoff appearance, it will be impressive.

How many years did Tom Brady and that fat, out-of-shape Roethelisberger play?
Burrow better have a LOT more healthy years left.

Stupid thread Trademark. No, the season is not over, we have 12 games to play and just need our Defense to get healthy and our youth to
grow into decent players. We shut down Henry pretty much until the run in OT which the run was our biggest problem on Defense.
Our Offense with Burrow, Chase, Tee and our running game is elite right now. We will win a lot of games.

Right, how many people on this board thought the Defense could hold King Henry to 41 yds. in regulation?

There's not a high end DE in the draft next year? That would be surprising since a lot of the time they go pretty early (unless there's not a lot)

There are.

Someone just asked about a SAF, which is what I was responding to.

Maybe not many, but Lou seems to have King Henry's number. Just like he seems to have the Chiefs number and seemingly nobody else's.

If in order to shut down a run game, you have to commit 8-9 in the box only to get shredded in the pass game, what does it matter?

Didn’t realize this, but when is a 50+ yard a gimme? We needed at least one first down.

A 50 yarder is not what it was ten years ago. Kickers are now hitting from 70. They are expected to make 50's with ease now. They were actually talking about this on the radio the other day and why this happened. Kids are now starting to go to kicking camps at much younger ages now. There is so much specialized training now that the kicking game has vastly improved.

As someone who attended the game mentioned, a 50+ yard kick in swirling wind is by no means a "gimme", would have been a tough kick even if the hold was good.
Volson is meh, but I like him, and he has far exceeded my expectations

An NFL kicker has never hit from 70 in a game. The long is 66 yards. Pre-game practice kicks of 70+ are inconsequential.

Technically there's a chance, but the probability is very low to go on a 9-3 run or better, especially for a team who started 1-4.
With that said, the 2022 season did start 2-3 and the Bengals went on to lose just 1 more game after that, so it can happen.
The last time the Bengals were 3 games under .500 though was 2020 when they went 4-11-1.
So keep an eye over the next month or so, but I'm not getting my hopes up.
I don't see a defensive difference maker who is going to blossom abruptly to have this defense do a 180 midway through the season.
I do think they'll get somewhat better though.

Success on longer field goals has increased but are by no means a "gimme". You mention ten years ago, so we'll use that as our cutoff. From 2021:2024, kickers made 50+ yard field goals 69% of the time. From 2011:2014, kickers made them 63% of the time. For McPherson's specifically, kickers have made 53 yard field goals 71% of the time since 2021. This is a decrease of 3% (74%) since the 2011:2014 period.

Well yeah, I understand you don't want to get your hopes up. All I am saying is this team under Taylor and with Burrow has done some
crazy things and they could do it again if the Defense just improves to decent under Lou. The Offense is playing fantastic, best Burrow
has played at this point in a season and we actually have an okay OL and a running game with Chase Brown.
The Defense can only improve and a young player like Myles Murphy, Kris Jenkins, CTB, DJ Turner, Battle etc could emerge you never
know...
Sure, if we lose to the Giants on Sunday night I think I will stop posts like this until something miraculous starts to happen, I think 10
wins easily gets us into the playoffs and we have 12 games left is all I am saying. The Defense is bound to start making a clutch stop
here and there, it has been the complete opposite of this though and the ball has just went the other way in all these close games
except in Carolina and the refs certainly have had some bad calls at crucial times against us.

I didn't say "in a game" They mentioned a kicker (who I don't remember) who was hitting from 70 consistently in practice. That is unheard of distance, but 66 is only 4 yards shorter. My guess is sooner or later the league will narrow the goal post.

The season isn't over, of course. There's a lot of football to be played and I will watch every second of it but I am firm in my belief that this is not a playoff team. The defense is just absolutely awful.
Offense can be a Super Bowl offense at times. They are not consistent enough and our coach does everything he can to hinder them.
And a Super Bowl offense I would think needs a run game.

it's a game of heart. bengals have no heart. much less a competent owner which leads to competent coach leading to competent players. how long do you need to watch the steelers or the ravens. that's literally how it's done. albeit neither of them will beat the chefs. come playoff time. futile.....

forgot to mention. there is no reputable coach that will come to cincy ever. for any reason. b/c well that's the ownership. winning doesn't make believers of them all. that's a fact.
