Hamilton Co. to consider dome for Paycor

I wish they'd built the damn dome on day 1, but since I'm no longer a STH, I won't lose sleep one way or the other.

I'm sorry but a guy with 'Llama' in his name saying he wore fleece just tickles my funny bone something fierce. LOL

Maybe change his name to Fleecey Llama?

No self-respecting llama wears llama fiber, guys.  Well, after it's shorn, anyway.  It's sheep or nothing Hehe

I'm not a fan of domes. But, I get all the people for them. It gets pretty cold in winter months.

Personally, logistically, they messed up with the location of the casino downtown.  It should have been on the water, with additional hotels built, around the two stadiums.

Are there good examples of stadiums with retractable roofs that actually open and close them a decent bit?

I rarely go to games and live 10 minutes from Hamilton County, so it's all good either way.

In regards to Super Bowl though, no chance. Maybe hosting a draft in there perhaps, otherwise good revenue maker during offseason.

nope...The Cowboys at Jerryworld, for example, have played 95% of home games with the roof closed

The Falcons only open their roof for "special" occassions

The Texans have opened theirs 4 times in 9 years

The Cardinals actually do a bit better, 22 times its been open since 2006 vs 71 close so about 24% of the time its closed

The Colts open Lucas Oil Stadium about 29% of the time

retraction is awfully expensive to only use less than 30% of the time

Things like weather always have to be considered when booking events at venues. Sure, Red Rocks is just awesome out there in the dry desert, but Cincinnati is a completely different animal.

Perhaps they will make it retractable? I enjoy watching snow games ect, but this is a savvy business move or consideration by the corporate conglomerate.

Retractable roofs are awesome but I know they probably cost a billion dollars.
My brother lives in Phoenix so over the years I have been to a few D Backs games and they usually keep the roof closed because that place is like the face of the sun in summer. However, I remember once they opened/closed it before the game I guess just to show it off? Anyways if was very cool to see.

hmmm.......Detroit and NY/NJ hosted Super Bowls. Also, I went to the Super Bowl in LA, my luxury hotel was an hour drive to S0-Fi stadium and 35 to 40 minutes to downtown LA. SO-FI like the NJ stadium has very little parking. You have to park your car 30 minutes away and then take a bus to and from the stadium. The bus ride each way was 1 hour.

Based on my experience, Cincy could use Dayton and Lexington for hotels. Yes, not close, but try getting around LA or NY/NJ during Super Bowl week, it is a traffic nightmare.

My point is the NFL has has Super Bowls in cold cities, NCAA has had tournaments in domed stadiums that overall lodging and parking had major issues.

To say no way Cincy would never be awarded a Super Bowl if they had a domed stadium, is a guess. Bengals have been in existence since 1969, so to be awarded 1 Super Bowl in 55+ years does not seem unreasonable.

2024 may go on record as one of most underperforming teams in Bengal history. Bengal's FO has major work to do on defensive side of the ball. I say tag and trade Tee Higgins in 2025 to start with the rebuild.

It would allow for many different activities to make money. Supercross, concerts, Final Four, and so on.

As for the Super Bowl, the challenge is not airport location (still less than 30 minutes to downtown) or the number of hotel rooms it is the lack of LUXURY hotel rooms.  The additional 600 or so rooms from the new convention center hotel will help but realistically to host a Supor Bowl, Cincinnati's downtown would need another 600 or so high-end rooms on top of that to host.  That means hotels like Ritz Carlton, W, JW Marriott, Conrad, Four Seasons, Intercontinental.  The problem is that Cincinnati doesn't have the daily business to support that many more rooms in the market.

it makes no sense to spend an extra billion..and these big "facilities "are not rented out year wide as you may think,,as for the superbowl. it is expensive..it is a destination and a dome would not guarantee cincinnati a superbowl...gray skies, freezing weather and slushy sidewalks..no thank you

The airport is less than 30 minutes from downtown for half the day, and that's with only the 1.7 million locals in the metro area around. However many thousands descend on Super Bowl cities would love that cut in the hill, the bridge, and the Lockland Split. I always thought the traffic down there was asinine for the amount of people in area. I will grant you that most major cities have some goofy spots though.

I just read on outkick about Browns getting a new domed stadium 12 miles south of Cleveland as Pally stated. It went on to say KC, Titans, Jags and Bears are also getting domed stadiums.
