I suddenly feel void of anything
Folks like James Rapien and Joe Goodberry have been talking about that for quite a few years now.
Bengals have typically gone after dudes they've seen do well against the Bengals.
Making somewhat of a joke, but do they not have any (or look at any) game film of players aside from the Bengals games? lol
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. If he can turn this into a playoff appearance, it will be impressive.

In fairness alot of teams do do this as well, it's just not a Bengals thing.

Like those are the guys that stick out to the front office and then we become bias toward them.
Yeah, not saying the evaluation is purely against us but for it to be a fair evaluation it should be looking at their entire career against all teams.

They discussed what drew them to those players and those were the things mentioned consistently. I thought it was weird.

The answer to this question is Antonio Bryant. Dude signed a 4 year 27 million dollar deal and practiced like once I believe. Comedy.

I think that the FO must have just made him an embarrassingly low offer, and when Detroit made him a fair offer he said "screw you guys" to the Bengals FO. How the Bengals came to the idea that he might sign a ridiculously low deal, possibly loaded with performance escalators given he was coming off of a second quad tear, after he had already shown the ability to recover and play well after the same serious injury previously is a bit of a head scratcher. Whatever the truth of that situation we don't know and are only to speculate. However what we do know is that the FO was obviously caught completely off guard, as they had taken no actions to sign a different NT previous to Reader signing with Detroit. They were then left holding their jocks, so to speak, as all of the quality NTs were signed by then.
Sheldon Rankins was a panic signing, and like most decisions not properly thought out, it has proven to be a waste.
It feels like they were saving money to sign Tee...but then they decided to not sign Tee.
Nick Scott was a bad signing. Zacs 1st year they signed some scrubs too.
Never forget about Barry Foster too in this discussion.

But it REALLY seems like we target FAs that play well against us the season prior. Stone and Rankins best games of the season were against us.
It's just hilarious to me if we base our free agent evaluations on that.
I used to think it was a Marvin thing because we used to do the same thing with post TC cuts. It seemed like we always targeted players from the teams we just played in the preseason. Seems like the strategy might be a Duke thing since we switched it to free agency.
You can always trust an dishonest man to be dishonest. Honestly, it's the honest ones you have to look out for.
