I would like to see a FB next season
#1
Someone to help our line block in the running and passing game. Burrow would take less hits we would control TOP more protect our defense. It could also potentially help us win more close games.

They had a guy, Perine and let him leave. The Bengal way. They need a good NT they had one, Reader and let him leave, they need a good safety they had one, Bates and let him leave. They need another good DE, they have one, Trey and he will be leaving.

Maybe it's me but I see a pattern here.

I'm not opposed to it as a change of pace formation but:

IMHO a few things would have to happen. We'd have to get an IOL that was worth a fudge. To be able to run a FB dive effectively. And that would be way better than being in shotgun on 3rd and a foot.

We'd have to get JB to acquiesce to being under center a good bit more. And we'd have to get a real OC that would know how and when to use a FB.

I like the idea of the FB, but wouldn't it fundamentally change how Burrow likes to ball and how Zac likes to run his offense? The offense has experienced success this season, but Burrow still takes the hits. Maybe a FB could help.

When watching the Bengals and Chargers, I did like how Harbaugh and Roman use the power running game to incorporate Matlock at FB. It's always been a position I enjoy watching. Players from the past like Tom Rathman, Daryl Johnston, Lorenzo Neal, Mike Alstott and a current players like Matlock and Ricard are guys I enjoy watching. But it's not that simple as putting a dude like these guys on the field. Incorporating the FB more would really change how Taylor/Pitcher/Burrow run the offense.

I should have read your post before making my own. Good points about the IOL and Burrow playing under center. Incorporating the FB more really would require a lot of personnel changes for the offense.

Well said. Other things need to be done before we add a Fullback. New OL coach, new IOL besides Karras and a more physical scheme.

More under Center with Burrow as we have been harping on for the last couple years. But once these things are addressed a battering ram FB
would be very welcome here along with a pounding RB to help out Chase Brown so he can be the scat back for us.

Perine isn't a FB.

I was going to say...

When was the last time we had a FB? Chris Pressley? That guy that went to the Patriots, forgot his name?

Yep and a complete change of the playbook.

Oh, I'm so sorry. He was a RB that could pound for yards, stiff arm well and block well. Call them what you want, 1/3 back, 1/2 back, pint/back, no/back, 1/5/back. He was a solid running BACK.

Off the top of my head I would have said Fui Vakapuna.... but apparently he never actually played any games for us. So I am shocked that name got stuck in my memory.

Now looking it up, I guess they tried to make Orson Charles a TE/HB/FB hybrid nonsense role for a year after Pressley but he wasn't really ever a true FB. Looks like Pressley (2012) was the most recent actual FB we had.

Yeah, I remember Vaikapuna and Pressley fighting it out on Hard Knocks for the FB position. Jeremi Johnson was a good one for us
until he ate himself into a fat boy.

If it is, I would hold off a few years on trying to buy a house as the market might become volatile soon. Also there's going to be this thing called Bitcoin, invest all your money into it regardless of how stupid is seems and is.

The last one I remember was the TE with blonde hair we used as a FB. I can't think of any true FB we've had recently. Heck, I forgot we had Lorenzo Neal. I'm getting old.
