Bell and Hubbard were officially benched against Dallas
#1
21 snaps (35%) of the snaps for Hubbard and 8 snaps(13%) for Bell.

Not gonna say if we did this earlier we’d have more wins cause that’s not fair but the fact it took this long is crazy.

Side note Myles Murphy got 2nd most snaps of a DE after Trey H

Damn this team is slow to react, several of us were calling for these moves a month or more ago.

Volson is meh, but I like him, and he has far exceeded my expectations

I just can't give up on Murphy yet. He looks so damn quick off the ball. He just needs polish and to get a better feel for the game. Hopefully more reps do that. The physical skillset is there.

And he was terrible.

Another note: Joseph Ossai played a good bit of 3t & 4t.

I'd bring back Ossai on a cheap deal. He's still young, has some upside, and is at least some good depth.

Joseph Ossai is quietly have a pretty good developmental year. In 44% of defensive snaps, he's got 31 tackles, 11 QB hits, 3 sacks and 3 TFL. It's nice to see him rebounding after looking like he'd lost his confidence last year. He should be able to challenge for even more time on the field next year, his contract year.

I kinda felt that way too about him.

When I did try to pay attention to him on some snaps, here were my observations:
- He's not trying to bend the corner like we see Hendrickson do. It feels most often some kind of bull rush or trying to break back inside.
- At least a couple times when actually beating his man, he seemed to hesitate or was just slow getting to the QB. Specifically, there was one of Hendrickson's sacks that either Murphy and Hendrickson beat their guys at the same time or Murphy actually beat his first but Hendrickson got to the QB faster still.

Is it more in his head at this point? Is he overthinking his strategy and worrying too much if a guy runs by him?
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. If he can turn this into a playoff appearance, it will be impressive.

I tried to watch Murphy closely during the game he made a tackle near the goal line and believe he had another tackle at some point. Far as pash rushing goes I noticed he dosen't get set in a 3 point stance he kinda stands upright then rushes not sure if that's new or something he's always done ? Far as rushing he seems to have a good bull rush but dosen't seem to have many moves to finish. Also on the Cooks touchdown Murphy dropped into coverage away from the play still hate the Lou drops D-lineman into coverage.

I thought this was his contract year? He's a UFA after this season.

I know why I thought that this was only his 3rd season, didn't he miss his rookie year due to injury?

This was worse than I originally thought. He played tall with no leverage and bad hand placement from what I noticed from the broadcast video.

I've been harping about him all season. Even when he defeats the block of the Tackle, he pursues like he's knee deep in molasses.

As backup fine but he has not shown ability to really start, hopefully we go FA or 1st round pick probably top 15 pick a DE

Yes he was! For all the burst off the snap, he doesn't do anything with it. He isn't any good at containment either.

these are the types of draft whiffs that set a unit and even team back for a couple years

Oh, I agree that they still need DL help, as it's becoming more and more apparent that Murphy is not the answer and Hubbard could be washed. I was just giving Ossai some props where it was due. He is turning into a fine situation/role player.

Ossai's sack as a 4t doesn't move the needle for me. They should look outside this DL roster even for depth.

I'm willing to give Murphy 1 more year, but he has to really step up next season.
Gotta get 5+ sacks after seeing Hubbard's decline.

Ossai, to me, is too little too late unless he maybe gets a few more to finish out the year.
It's hard to sell on 43 games with just 7.5 sacks, 3 of which came just these past 3 games. 4.5 sacks across his first 40 games.
I wouldn't offer him more than $3 mill/year though.

Cam Sample also is set to hit FA, and he's done little as well.

I'd keep Ossai over Sample if having to pick one, but I'm also ok letting both walk, drafting 1 dude early (needs to be proven skilled pass rusher though, no project/raw pass rusher), and maybe getting a 2nd dude either in the draft or FA too.
