pass rush has improved since Hubbard injury

Which was detrimental to the team. And that’s on the coaches for allowing it to happen.

Lou is definitely to blame keeping Hubbard out there for so long but I believe Hubbard can still be a solid rotational piece if he’s open to his contract being reworked. It’s limited snaps but has anyone else noticed Cedric Johnson? He seems to have a great motor and looks like he could be an extremely valuable piece come 2025.

Hubbard had one of the worst pass rush win rates in the NFL before he got injured. He was also one of the slowest/least reactive guys on the field each week.

Ossai/Murphy has been a CLEAR upgrade.

Ossai has been subpar in his career, glad he has had better games of late ...Hubbard injuries  have done him in but this team still is weak at DE need to look to sign impact DE in offseason

They had Murphy add weight the last offseason. I think they need him back where he was - the added speed would more than compensate for the drop in power. Ossai they can keep.

I suppose it depends on the your definition of "large contract"? He's going to get paid bro, and it will be a substantial amount of cabbage.

I have the feeling that he will go somewhere else and flourish! He's a very good piece to add for a team with actual proven NFL DTs. Reader was injured last season, and there is zero inside defensive presence this season. He's just now beginning to understand how to play his position at the NFL level.

Not arguing, just saying, he's gonna get paid!

Oassai would be a good peice to bring back in a rotation and the other one that impresses me is Johnson. When he gets a shot he seems to produce pressure and has a high motor. The guy never lets up. I also think Joelist hit the nail on the head with Murphy. He looks heavy and slow and needs to lose weight. We do need to add a pass rusher but Ossai, Johnson and a slimmed down Murphy would be good to get back to a rotation.

His stats will not get him a very good contract.

Tend to agree.

If he is used like Geathers was, prior to taking on a full time role, he will excel. But relying on Ossai to be a 3 down DE will be a disappointment.

Not that that will affect what he will be offered...

Yes, which probably wasn't a good thing.

And here's my take on Hubbard: He's been a good player for us there's no doubt. But the key word in that last sentence is "good". With the injuries he's had can he come back and be "good" again? Or is he going to be even less impactful?

And I don't have a ton of faith that anyone on our current roster is any more than a "good' rotational piece. Sample? perhaps?

But we have to get better, a lot better on the Dline. We've gotten trashed, thrashed and punked way too much in too many games this season. NO pass rush outside of Trey, opponents running at will on us. Our D-backs have no chance when opposing QB's have all day to throw. I don't want just "a guy" for the Dline next year. I want very, very good guys and above.

We can't keep blowing Joe Burrow's prime years, HOPING

This. Pass rush isn't great, but it's improved. Hubbard did nothing.

He was the number 1 DE against the run. I don't understand the reasoning behind Bengals fans turning on players, calling him "washed" etc. He may not be able to continue, but if that's the case, just let him go. No need to diminish what he meant to this team for years.

He's been pretty bad this year, but maybe it was the injury? He's not that old, so I doubt he's washed otherwise.

He’ll be going into his age 30 season, and Lou has put a lot of miles on those tires. As Dr. Jones said: “it’s not the years, it’s the mileage.”

He will either get overpaid by a needy team or he will sign something short term with a contender and be well compensated. He will get paid on potential. Played pretty well this week.

I don't think that he's going to be great, but one never knows. I think he's just playing/played well enough that someone will give him a nice chunk. Played at Texas, so Big D and Houston are probably almost certainly in play.

???

We had the most amount of sacks in a game (5) and abused that oline.

You really should think before you post sometimes.

That said, Hubbard is washed.

Agreed and agreed.

The sample size is not just too small, but also tainted by us having played Will Levis (2nd highest sack%) and DTR (would be 10th highest sack% if he qualified) in those two games. Two guys who certainly won't be starting games in 2025 and possibly just not in the NFL.

I get it, but people are looking for change.  We just watched an offense that might be the best in the league get pissed down the drain because of a dumb, soft, and poorly constructed defense.  One or two key stops and we wouldn't be sitting around rooting for the Browns like a bunch of bums.

The team does players like Sam few favors when they pretend that their play hasn't diminished.  It's not fun to see a player as popular as Hubbard get dragged, but it probably shouldn't have even come to that.  Even when he was hurt, they kept running him out there as a shell of himself.  It's not so much a player problem as it is a coaches discretion problem.

With Ossai's surge in pass rush production the past 1-2 months (4.5 sacks across 6 games), is he worth re-signing?
Or is this a case of too little, too late?
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. Ended 9-8 but barely missed playoffs

Changes needed to do better in Sept/Oct moving forward.

Sorry for Party Rocking!
