Shout out for Zac Taylor

I don't really remember what the major malfunction was, the defense held them to 16.

Good points but the Pats were the first game. We lost 7 more. I know the defense had issues. But the slow starts are huge issue. Cost us the playoffs 2 years in a row. Zac can’t count on the rally at the end mantra. Injuries can derail that. The games early need more focus and attention.
Romo “ so impressed with Zac ...1 of the best in the NFL… they are just fundamentally sound. Taylor the best winning % in the Playoffs of current coaches. Joe Burrow” Zac is the best head coach in the NFL & that gives me a lot of confidence." Taylor led the Bengals to their first playoff win since 1990, ending the longest active drought in the four major North American sports, en and appeared in Super Bowl LVI, the first since 1988.

Tee Higgins was going to be a major part of the game plan week one because Chase had set out. Tee ended up injured on I think a Thursday that week and even though Ja'Marr Chase was playing Joe wasn't really looking his way like he usually does. It didn't help Alex Cappa had his first of many rough games this season vs Patriots Keion White.

Yeah, I realize that. The first game is the only glaring lack of offensive points though, which is why I was wondering. Like I said, I really do not remember the details from that game.

But he struggles to trust the process and read the defense. He takes way too many checkdowns, gives up on routes and drops his eyes way too early, once he drops his eyes and starts too scramble he doesn't get his head back up. Burrow super power is reading the defense and get the ball out accurately. But another one is his trust of the process as when he gets pressure trust that the lineman will continue to work and he can evade and keep his eyes down field.
Outside of more preseason work as we never no about injuries as something may occur that makes that impossible. I think we need to make the run game a priority and come up with more schemes plays those first couple of weeks. I think Zac comes up with good route concepts but beyond that it's on Burrow to make the plays and it works well when he is himself but we need to lessen the pressure on him early.

I think now that Zac has trust in Chase Brown, we will see more games involving more of the run.

I don’t really give 2 ______ whether it’s injuries or what. Zac’s record in September is pathetic. And it’s plenty body of work. If we would have snuck in the playoffs the last 2 years he’d have plenty less scrutiny.

No one is arguing that, I was just reflecting on one particular game....

Sure but it’s in that framework and related. Joe was healthy enough to win

Right ....so it seems they're coaching to strengths, and doing things to mitigate weaknesses, no?

The only reason i see moving on from Lou is he seems to really struggle to change his scheme to match his personnel. We waited way too long to simplify his scheme with the defensive struggles this year. The defense was horrendous for the first half + of the season and the quick firing makes me wonder if they hadn't just made they're mind up and not taking the end of the season into account. Although it was against lesser competition.

Wait a minute..... didn't the Bengals set a record for most games lost when the offense scored 30+? How is THAT on the offense?

Bengals were 6th int he league in points per game (27.8).

The five teams above them made the playoffs.
And the 4 teams below them.

So they were the only team in the top 10 in points per game to miss the playoffs, Lou was justifiably fired.

True. I'm not saying the defense wasn't the reason we didn't make the playoffs and that I don't think we needed to move on from Lou. I'm just saying that while the defense really really struggled at times they still did enough to win or gave the offense to win and we failed.
1: New England we only allowed 16pts so I think we put that on the offense.
2:KC we lost 25-26 with a fumble for a score and still made kc punt up 2 giving the offense a chance to drive and end it.
3:1st Ravens game lost in overtime as we all know and while the defense couldn't stop anything in the 2nd half they got the turnover in OT giving a chance to win.
4: Chargers a game that we really needed to win. The defense forced three punts later in the 2nd half with the game tied.
So the defense was a huge issue but the offense failed in big situations in tight games this season. This was called out at times by people that cover the Bengals during the season.
