These guys do technically take up roster spaces and cap space at the moment. But effectively  they do not, as none of them have any Dead Cap hit if released. These are camp bodies, practice squad types with perhaps a dark horse candidate to make the 53 or two.

But it does give one a better idea if how much space we'd have with a full toster instead of only 44.

B.  2025 Bengals Spending
1. Dead Cap = $6,607,962

C. Cap Space Calculator

The most common method via spotrac & OTC is the top 51 method, which is accurate for the off-season, but does not include all 53 players in the regular season, the cost of the practice squad (or possibly rookies), or include low salary guys likely to make the team.

So, top 51 gives a quick idea of howuch space you have, but is gonna overestimate the space by the cost of the PS ($3-$4 mil), 2 low end roster spots ($2 mil), and the cost of you rookie contracts over existing guys (hard to say, depending on who gets cut).

1.  Top 51 Cap Space

Guess after Hill, if at $11 mil hit, around $32 mil. Adter Perine, likely above $30 still.

PFF hated his 2024 (45.4 grade) but ESPN rated him with the highest run stop win % of any DT in the league (400+ snaps).

Bengals sign former Eagles LB Oren Burks. Who was mostly a ST guy until LB Nakobe Dean got hurt, and started and played well during the SB run. PFF, 149 snaps, 83.0 overall  86.8 run D, 70.0 coverage, 63.2 pass rush. Better in SB. 2 years, $5 mil. At least LB3 if not challenging for LB2.

Spotrac has Perine counting $1.4 mil against the cap.

Ossai has to be $7.

Unknowns: Hudson (can't be much), Hill, Slaton, Burks.

Guestimating $35 mil with Hill, Slaton, & Burks not factored in. Cutting Moss would push it to $38.

APY's of $11/$7.5/$2.5 would teduce it to $17 mil, but the space is likely more.

Wow. Not much left by my quick math. Hoping for some news on a Joe Burrow restructure and locking up Trey, Tee, and Chase.

Would have loved another G and some bigger FA splashes (not many bigger than Slaton) but I'm not mad if we go into the draft with that roster.

Spitrac has BJ at $8,666,666 cap hit. Ossai is $7 mil if the reporting is accurate. Negligible impact for Sample. And putting in OTC's new cap numbers for us (we got a slight upwards adjustment)....

I have us at $23.4 mil in cap space IF Moss is waived using top 51.

Practically less for the regular season (53, practice squad, IR, 1st round rookie, etc).

15 mill for for those two is sickening when actual impact guys could’ve been signed for that. If not impact, at least above average, these two are less than replacement level

Hill is WAY above replacement level. Even ESPN's metrics, which don't like him much, had him 11th vs the run. PFF likes him better. 1 of 4 at 70+ on our D (Trey, Logan, Hilton, Hill).

Ossai came on late. If he'd have been getting Hubbard's snaps from jump, he'd have been close to 10 sacks.

I think most of the DT/DE FA class were overpaid or over the hill, or coming off underehelming season. Outside of Sweat/Mack, I would not have paid $15 mil to amy of them. And Mack was always staying home.

Tufele is replacement level. He signed with the Jets, FWIW.

Tufele to the Jets.

Hill's hit is $8,625,490 via OTC. Sample reportedly $1.6 (likely nothing guaranteed). And Ossai not official yet, but no wiggle room in 1 yr/$7.

Chase & Higgins re-signed to 4 yeer deals. Chase's is 4 years and $161 mil, and is now signed thru 2029. Higgins comes in at 4 years and $115 mil and is signed thru 2028.

Cap hits and full details not yet available. And in bizarro NFL salary cap world, both deals should/could actually lower their cap hits this year by a significant amount.

Now go get some guards, restructure Joe, and sign Trey to an extension.

No idea. Chase & Higgins deals have unknown details. Moss is still on the roster, and most sites have not included Ossai/Sample yet either.

But I reckon north of $30 mil via Top 51.

Well, that is now official. Tee & Chase tomorrow.

Get Trey done, and restructure Joe, and then dolash some cash. Trenches first.

My favorites:
LG: Jenkins
RG: Scherff, Hernandez, Risner
DE: Smith
DT: Campbell
----------
CB: Gilmore, Hilton
S: Simmons, Blackmon

Guys I am nearly certain make a 53 if we had to play a game soon:

QB (2): Burrow; Browning
RB (2): C. Brown; Perine
WR (3): Chase, Higgins, Iosivas
TE/WR (1): Gesicki
TE (3): D. Sample; All (IR likely), Hudson
OT (2): O. Brown, Mims
G (2): Ford (G/OT), Volson
C (2): Karras; Lee
--------17 on offense--------
DE (3): Hendrickson, Ossai; Murphy
DT/NT (4): BJ Hill, Slaton; Jenkins, Jackson
LB (3): L. Wilson, Pratt; Burks
CB (4): CTB, Turner, D. Hill; Newton
S (2): Battle, Stone
---------16 defense------
PK: McPherson
P: Rehkow
LS: Adomitis
-----3 specials---36 total, 35 if All IR'd

Not saying all of the above guys make it to the 53, but as of now, with who we have, it ishard to imagine then not.

I think everyone else is kind of fringe. Though some more inner fringe and some more outer.

I have us at $23.4 mil in cap space IF Moss is waived using top 51.

Practically less for the regular season (53, practice squad, IR, 1st round rookie, etc).

I heard someone say today it was 28 million....

OTC & Spotrac have the numbers in for Ossai  ($6.5 mil) and Sample ($1.2 mil).

OTC is at $23.5 for top 51. But that is without Tee & Chase's deals added in (+$10 mil at least) or Moss being cut (+$3.5 mil).

That would get us to $37 mil.

On the downside, Trey will cost more (say $6 mil).

And of course, in the regular, you have to pay 53 not 51, and the PS. That will cost $5 mil or so additional. Back to $27 or so. And the 1st rounder will earnore than whomever he displaces as long as it isn't Pratt or Stone. By around $2 mil. So $25 would be my guess. And Brown usually likes to keep a cushion, and we will pay All even on IR.

So, my guestimate would be $24 minus the cushion.

Of course, if Burrow reatructures (can Brown afgord all that cash flow this year?), that would push it back over $40.

Nice breakdown. Looks like they can sign a vet guard and ring chasing DL while still giving Trey a raise this year to extend him at a reasonable number.
