I think that they can cut him as soon as the first day of the league year and designate him as a post June 1st cut, that way they can be free of the headache and false hope that was Jermaine Burton.

Yes teams can designate two players as post June 1 cuts early each season.  I don't know if they should use it on him though. Normally I feel like the early post June designation is used on players they know they are going to cut but want to do them a favor and let them get a start on free agency earlier. I don't feel like Burton has earned any favors.   Of course another reason teams might use the early designation is if a player has things like roster bonuses that might kick in before June 1st to save them some money.  Over the Cap doesn't show Burton having any bonuses like that so I'm not sure that would matter for him.

Wow...what a waste of a 3rd round draft pick. And I got excited when they showed Zac getting excited after they made the pick. Also had high hopes because Houshmandzadeh vouched for him.

Is Zach still giggling like a schoolgirl & slapping Duke on the back about Burton?

So stupid. Our FO/coaches have so little situational awareness.

What we needed around Burrow,
Chase, Hendrickson, and Tee are dependable guys. Not high risk gambles.

But they were so focused on trying to hit a HR at WR/TE so they could let Tee & Gesicki walk that they took gambles when they should have taken more solid options.

We let Bates & Reader go and still have not paid Chase, Hendrickson, or Higgins.

Pay those guys. The guys you cut are the Rankins, Cappa, Hubbard, Volson, and Moss types. If we have to tighten further & waive McPherson, Stone, Pratt or let BJ Hill, Hilton, & Gesicki walk, so be it.

But don't cry poor. Burrow is willing to restructure. With that & common sense cuts, we'll have upwards of $90 mil. More than enough for Tee, Chase, & Trey to get deals done AND sign some significant FA's (OG, DT, DE, BJ, Hilton, Gesicki, etc.).

Burton hardly knew ya.

If he wasn't a 3rd round pick the Bengals would of cut bait months ago. Unfortunately it's time to cut rope.

Hope he figures out being rich before its too late for him, but think its too late on this team now anyway.

Yet who knows MB seems to gravitate to these types of problem childs.

Kid was electric in the 3 preseason games. Immaturity! If he lives another 20 years he will probably look back and realize that he wasted a great opportunity here.

He'll end up with the Steelers....Mike Tomlin loves immature underperforming wide receivers who will never meet their expectations because they repeatedly do stupid stuff

All hopes turn to next year

I’m sick of reading about this clown. I can’t imagine what his teammates think about him. I get giving a guy chances, but this guy has got to go. Unfortunately, I see prison in this guy’s future.

Kid can't even manage something as simple as paying bills on time and honoring lease agreements.

Cut him.
Everything in this post is my fault.

I hate to cut him loose and lose that 3rd round pick so quickly, but the only way this kid will ever get it is if he IS cut loose.

I'm completely ok with moving on from Burton.
Dude has had one of the worst rookie seasons as I can remember, especially off the field.

But IF the Bengals want to keep him around because they don't want to toss away a 3rd round pick after just one year, I would ONLY be ok giving him this upcoming year to shape up.
Dude needs to prove he has actually learned from his mistakes, and these are the kinds of mistakes that mentally you just need to think about to do, not something you have to learn over multiple years.
Luckily, there's really no harm in keeping him into TC/preseason before deciding to cut him.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. Ended 9-8 but barely missed playoffs

Changes needed to do better in Sept/Oct moving forward.

Sorry for Party Rocking!

If they keep him, they absolutely have to get him a life coach.

Also seems connecting to his Apple Carplay is too complicated.

Burton is a lost cause. If he hasnt learned the playbook by now, he is never going to. Even if Burton had a mentor and was able to get the outside stuff taken care of, does anyone think he learns the playbook? The guy has issues. The scouting department did a poor job. There is a very good reason he was still there in the 3rd round when the Bengals picked him. Other teams did a good job scouting. The Bengals having the worst scouting department in the NFL didnt. That's the difference in having a good scouting department vs a bad. Bengals need to upgrade their scouting department.

Everybody calls this guy a kid....He's a grown-ass man. He was given a golden opportunity that few ever get. I, at least had hopes he would be a decent special team player and return guy. I hope Chase gets the biggest payday ever for a receiver and Burton gets cut at the Bengals earliest fiscal convenience. F.O. took a chance and it blew up in their faces...time to move on.

Nothing to lose hanging on to him through training camp.

One last chance. Just don’t count on him for anything and plan like he will be gone.

If he shows up with the right attitude and proves he is committed, maturing, and capable of learning from mistakes then I’d let him compete for a roster spot.

I’m wondering if he got ahold of some lead paint chips or he was huffing gasoline or something. Because holy shit his IQ must be way down there.

You're right, they won't lose much in terms of money. What they will lose by keeping him around is the opportunity to dismiss Burton and move on, there's no shame in admitting that they took a chance on Burton and deciding that it just wasn't going to work out.
