Just keep in mind that he was a free agent last year, and the team chose to pay him that amount. Not all valuable contributions in football show up on a stat sheet.
Sample was the 32nd highest-paid TE last year, at 1.3% of the team's salary cap.
This guy: "ZOMG, 3 MIL IS SO MUCH, HE'S GONNA BE CUT!"
He will be with the team for another 4-5 years, barring an injury or something catastrophic

We know he's a better pass blocker than run blocker, but Sample's grades are not trustworthy: we see him 2-3 times a game help seal an edge or open up a hole, RARELY is a run play blown up because Sample missed his block.
Eye test will always trump the grades in that case, they just aren't as trustworthy as they used to be
