Just keep in mind that he was a free agent last year, and the team chose to pay him that amount. Not all valuable contributions in football show up on a stat sheet.

Sample was the 32nd highest-paid TE last year, at 1.3% of the team's salary cap.

This guy: "ZOMG, 3 MIL IS SO MUCH, HE'S GONNA BE CUT!"

He will be with the team for another 4-5 years, barring an injury or something catastrophic

We know he's a better pass blocker than run blocker, but Sample's grades are not trustworthy: we see him 2-3 times a game help seal an edge or open up a hole, RARELY is a run play blown up because Sample missed his block.

Eye test will always trump the grades in that case, they just aren't as trustworthy as they used to be Sad

Your argument for ADG is pretty funny.

‘If you just look past his 4-5 really bad games, he was actually not terrible.’

It’s like in baseball. A 7 era 1.8 whip -2 war pitcher. If you just took his 6 worst starts out of there, his numbers are actually pretty serviceable for a #5 starter.

Yeah. I don’t buy it

I hope I am wrong.

We act like it is easy to win super bowls with top end QBs, it is not.. a QB that is considered one of best all time in Marino nevered did, how about Jim Kelly and today 2 qbs on par with Joe in Jackson and Allen have yet to even get to SB ...

Well, it is a lot easier to win a superbowl w a QB like Burrow than it is to win with one like Herbert, or Hurts, or pretty much any QB in the league not names Mahomes, Jackson or Allen.

Are you saying that the Bengals chances to actually win a SB are less with Burrow?

c766 your doing an admirable job and putting up a sophisticated defense. But take it from me. You need to keep some posters on the squad. Don’t get distracted by friendly fire.

Then Unrestricted FA in 2030.

That is the timeline on how long the Bengals have Burrow.  They have already burned through 5 years, if you need any reference point on how quick it will go.

The Bengals are 38-30-1 when Burrow starts, he has missed  13 games with two serious injuries in those 5 years.

They have won 5 playoff games.  Raiders, Titans, Chiefs, Ravens and Bills.  They have lost two others, the Super Bowl and the ACF Championship 2 years ago.

Passing attempts: 2,547
Passing completions: 1,748
Completion percentage: 68.6%
TD–INT: 140–46
Passing yards: 19,001
Passer rating: 101.2

He has been better than anyone had imagined when he was drafted #1OA.

Burrow is entering the absolute prime of his QB Career,  Ages 28-33, and his contract is a bargain compared to other QB contracts that will be signed in the next few seasons.

There should be alarm bells going off in the FO.  This team, and their historically miser -first approach, needs to be drastically altered to capitalize on what they have in front of them.

As a Bengal Fan, the next 5 years are certainly exciting, but so were the last two years of no playoffs and 9-8 records.   To me, both were wasted seasons, but this year was more egregious given the healthy and MVP worthy Season he posted.

Must Do's:

Cut the waste:  Hubbard, Rankins, Cappa, Sample, etc.

Buy 4 Premier FAs: Teven Jenkins, Becton at Guards to start.  LB and Safety as well.

Sign Higgins and Chase to 4 year extensions.  Essentially matching burrows time in stripes and the primes of their careers.

Draft:  BPA on Defense in the first 3 rounds.

Go win two Super Bowls.

I'm not too sure about cutting Hubbard. He didn't play very well at all this year, but he's been solid in years past. He also was dealing with a pretty bad injury all year long. If he has a bad season next year I would be all on board, but right now I'm kinda giving him a little grace since he's been solid for us.

He’s had two bad seasons in a row now. He can not be brought back. Especially at an $11 million cap hit. Injuries and Father Time have caught up with him.

1000000000%

If Hubbard is on the team in 2025, that will tell you all you need to know about their desire to actually improve and capitalize on the opportunity now.

The way Samples contract is, they can cut him with 0 dead cap this year only...or pay him 6 million over the next 2.

He will get cut, as he is terrible.  But again, that is not the point.
