Anyone who states we should have given him All-Pro money to keep him is also wrong.

The important thing to remember is in both situations I'm right.

Bates is an interesting one to debate.  He had an elite year here, a few good or decent years, and one year where he sucked and turned it on in the playoffs.  Dude was all over the place.

In Atlanta, he was elite last year and had a good year this year.  He was PFF's 12th highest ranked S.  Really good.  But worth elite money?

His lack of consistency is likely why they talked at paying him.

Yet, he phoned in the regular season until he left. Bottom line is if he played in the regular season like he did in the playoffs he would've gotten paid here. He did'nt want to be here, let it go.

I would say that Jesse Bates is at the top of the second tier of safeties in this league. It wasn't worth losing Tee Higgins to keep him (if that's what it came down to), but he's much better than any S currently on the roster. Letting both Bates and Higgins walk is unacceptable to me.
