Dane Brugler released a 2-round mock today. Not a fan lol.
The Bengals picks are #17 Mykel Williams Edge Georgia, #49 Marcus Mbow T/G Purdue.

Quote:17. Cincinnati Bengals: Mykel Williams, Edge, Georgia
Last year, the Bengals drafted a toolsy offensive lineman from Georgia in the first round (Amarius Mims). They flip to the other side of the ball and do it again in this mock. Williams looked like a future top-10 pick as a freshman, but he didn’t quite reach dominant status over his three seasons in Athens. The talent, however, is there for him to grow into a game-wrecker off the edge.

I used to like him, but how can he put us with taking Myles Murphy 2.0??
Volson is meh, but I like him, and he has far exceeded my expectations

If the draft started EDGE, then G/T, I'd be ok with it. An argument could be made on what players though, in particular Mbow who seems to be a slight reach.
I'm OK with Williams but still prefer his teammate Walker at the moment.

Don’t know much about mbow yet. Matt miller on espn plus posted his list of 12 players with a true round 1 grade in this draft. FWIW, Williams was on that list and if his rankings hold any water, I would take that in rd 1

I like Mykel Williams's ceiling, but I like Abdul Carter, Nic Scourton, and James Pearce Jr over him.
I wouldn't trust the previous DL Coach/DC to properly coach him up, but I might change my mind depending on who takes over.
For now, I want high-floor, and we've seen Carter, Scourton, and Pearce each have at least one season of double-digit sacks in their college career.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. Ended 9-8 but barely missed playoffs
Changes needed to do better in Sept/Oct moving forward.

It's tough judging guys from talent laden teams. It's like 50/50 on weather they are actually that good, or just have gaudy stats as a product of the talent around them. (see Myles Murphy as a prime example)

I've looked into all of them though, and Williams looks like the most project out of the ones I listed.
And Murphy never had gaudy stats. He never had more than 7 sacks in a season in college.
Maybe I misinterpreted why you used Murphy as an example though.

It's true that he didn't have big sack numbers, or even a high tackle count. I think that he was perceived as being a strong pass rusher due to the number of pressures and QB hits over his career. (though I can't find the stats on that for the college level)

Not to pile on Murphy, but NO. 27 Hurries+Sacks in 355 pass rush snaps.
Mykel Williams 20 hurries+sacks in 250 pass rush snaps.
Sawyer: 44/349
Carter: 56/355.
Peirce: 51/257.
Last year Laiatu Latu: 51 hurries/sacks in 304.
2023: Will Anderson: 56/382.
Obviously sack are better than hurries, run defense is also a thing, and potential counts.

I think Carter is trending towards a top 5 pick or at a minimum top 10. He won't be there at 17.
I want high ceiling and high floor in round 1.
2024 may go on record as one of most underperforming teams in Bengal history. Bengal's FO has major work to do on defensive side of the ball. I say tag and trade Tee Higgins in 2025 to start with the rebuild.

I agree on Carter, was just mentioning him in the DEs I have ahead of MW.
I think Pearce and Scourton are both high ceiling but also high floor guys, personally.
At least as pass rushers, which is what I want the higher pick DEs to be good at.
Scourton is gonna be your bigger style DE, someone that Marvin would have typically liked.
Pearce is a bit smaller weight wise (~245 for Pearce vs ~275 for Scourton) but he's faster and twitchier.
Scourton better as a run defender but Pearce more what I would want as a pass rusher on the end if staying 4-3.
Scourton is more of the DE that lines up across from the RT who would replace Hubbard. Pearce is more in line with replacing Hendrickson.

I haven't delved deeply into the draft yet, but our DL is in no shape to take a guy that needs to develop.
You can always trust an dishonest man to be dishonest. Honestly, it's the honest ones you have to look out for.

James Pearce Jr going 2 picks later is the one that gets me. Bengals have been a below average pass rush team for the past 3 seasons and Pearce was the most disruptive player in the SEC over the last two seasons.

Frankly, like last year, the entire picking order will be dictated by who's reaching for a QB. Remember Verse was projected as top 10 as well (and rightly so) right up till the draft, but fell mostly due to offense being prioritized.

Abdul Carter has a case for best overall prospect in the 2025 draft class. The top 5 will probably have some kinda combination of Cam Ward, Shedeur Sanders, Travis Hunter, Abdul Carter, and then a toss up between Mason Graham, Tetairoa McMillian, and Will Johnson.

This is the way. 1T and OG need immediate upgrades. Both would be upgrades.
Through 2024
Mike Brown Owner/GM record: 34 years 232-311-4 .419 winning pct.
Playoff Record: 5-9 .357 winning pct.
Zac Taylor coaching record: 6 years 46-52-1 .470 winning pct.
Playoff Record: 5-2 .714 winning pct.
