Bengals looking at Hendrickson extension
#1
whether it happens or not is a different situation

Quote:“Has he earned a pay raise and a bump in an extension … he has,” Tobin said. “We’re cognizant of that, and we will give that to him. But whether we agree on what that looks like is, is what is to be determined.”

All hopes turn to next year

They acknowledge he needs a raise but reserve the right to tell us in a few months they expect him to play out his deal since he asked for too much.

has to be a good sign they at least acknowledged that this early in the offseason.

I honestly think that the best scenerio we have is to pay Trey, Tag and trade TEE for a 3rd, and look to sign a solid/steady #2 like Darius Slayton who wont command a huge salary, and draft a WR in rds 4/5.

Bengals acknowledge he need a raise.

Offer him well below market value.

Trey refuses, Bengals wont budge to negotiate.

No deal gets done, Trey walks at the end of the year.

We've all seen this movie before.

Why, they can simply do nothing and achieve the same.

I don’t think I’ve been this pessimistic in a long time as 5-6 year fan. Putting off signing Chase,Trey, and maybe Tee is depressing.I’m worried about the cap and signing everyone plus money availability in FA
Romo “ so impressed with Zac ...1 of the best in the NFL… they are just fundamentally sound. Taylor the best winning % in the Playoffs of current coaches. Joe Burrow” Zac is the best head coach in the NFL & that gives me a lot of confidence." Taylor led the Bengals to their first playoff win since 1990, ending the longest active drought in the four major North American sports, en and appeared in Super Bowl LVI, the first since 1988.

Bengals FO be like...
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. Ended 9-8 but barely missed playoffs

Changes needed to do better in Sept/Oct moving forward.

Sorry for Party Rocking!

The comp 3rd I believe would be awarded in 2026. Having it now also allows you to try to sign a big FA that otherwise would offset and cancel the Tee pick.

Yes, I suppose with only having 6 picks this year, it would be nice to have another in the top 100. However there is a bit of a risk involved, as it takes another team willing to do the trade. I'm not sure how often this happens, but if the Bengals went ahead and tagged Higgins and the other team reneged on their end of the deal, it would leave the Bengals in a bad spot.

Maybe you should dive into another team's cap situation. Ravens have had issues but still won our division. Saints are a lesson on how not to manage the cap.

Our cap situation is an opportunity. Our FO has not used create cap spending (deferring cap in later years), so it is something they have at their disposal to use more of this method than. they did in the past.

Bengals have been too loyal to a fault honoring contracts for players who vastly underperformed those contracts. I see 5 players who deserve based on contribution and performance who need to be cut and replaced.
Rankins
Hubbard
Cappa
Moss
Stone

I am a performance-based guy. Pay those like Trey who earned it, remove those who have not.

One more plus, the FO's great job of creating contracts will come into play if they decide to cut people as dead money will be low. On the other hand, a team like the Browns face major cap hit for 2 years of dead money if they choose to cut Watson.

Many complain the Bengals should have signed some of our guys earlier to longer term contracts. While true, it it not a mistake that can't be overcome.

2024 may go on record as one of most underperforming teams in Bengal history. Bengal's FO has major work to do on defensive side of the ball. I say tag and trade Tee Higgins in 2025 to start with the rebuild.

Hope they have learned something from losing guys like Bates. Give him a fair deal and extend him for a few more years. Maybe he’s a little over paid for his production in 3 years but that’s the price you have to pay sometimes to get/keep elite guys.

Just like Chase, there is just no way to replace Treys production.

Definitely one of the things that needs to be done. Extending Ja'Marr and Trey are essential and tagging Tee so at the very least we
can get something for him this year. Would also bring back BJ and Hilton on Defense who are not the problems.

Hate this FO so much have zero faith that the right moves will be made.

I’m guessing Trey doesn’t get paid and walks after next season.

Chase gets extended there’s your big off season move Bengals fans while we fail to maximise our cap space with mid level free agents.

Tee probably balks at the paltry offer or we let him walk completely.

There’s thousands of people better positioned who could do a better job than those muppets in the ownership/executive group.

It’s ***** embarrassing.

The FO really needs to get all this done. The lack of faith in the fan base should be really concerning to them.

Extend Ja'Marr, Trey, BJ and the Mike's (Hilton, Gesicki) please...

As hot of a commodity Tee will be you don't trade him for nothing less than a first and second.

That family couldn’t give a **** about the fanbase, they get their money from the NFL yearly and will have enough idiots (including me) coming to watch Burrow and Chase and pray like **** that they can get hot at the right time again.

Tobin has come out and said today they kept too many of the SB squad together I’d argue the opposite letting guys likes Bates and Reader walk even Larry O a few years ago when we had the money to pay him.

There’s so much work to be done to get us back to where we want to be does anyone truly trust them because I don’t?

The real question (as usual) is how much cash do they have on hand after paying all the bills versus what they need to do with it (pay signing bonuses / escrow guarantee monies not covered under signing bonuses). That number dictates what they can do with contracts - remember the team is not run as a write-off by a mega-rich sugar daddy who can take care of these things for them. That's why the Chase deal fell through over Guaranteed money - they agreed on everything else. It's also why Burrow's deal was structured like it was (thankfully he was cool with it) with pieces of the Guarantee coming online in different years.
