Bengals looking at Hendrickson extension
(01-29-2025, 02:59 PM)SunsetBengal Wrote: Why, they can simply do nothing and achieve the same.

3rd round comp is later than a regular 3rd though  Tongue
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. Ended 9-8 but barely missed playoffs

Changes needed to do better in Sept/Oct moving forward.

Sorry for Party Rocking!

Not a downgrade like the clown we got. So many on this board said rankins would generate so much pressure and that’s what we needed. He was average on the Texans and he’s awful for the bengals.

Christian Wilkins.

Me, too. But he had a terrible year. Leonard Williams from SEA was high on my list, but he stayed there & balled.

The FA DT class is MUCH weaker this year. BJ is top 4. Milton Williams is #1 on most boards and he does not even start in Philly.

I'd avoid spending big on a DT this year. Though a moderate deal for BJ, or Poona Ford, Tart, or Calais Campbell + a draft pick (or two) is the way I'd go. Of my first 4vpicks, 2 would almost surely be DL: one DE and one DT.

Are best DT in past 2 years is BJ Hill, he is treading upward when Reader was trending downward which showed last season between them, with a thin line and weak FA it would be way worse letting BJ walk over Reader last year, need to sign him.

In fact it might be argued that the 3t's success might hinge upon the effectiveness of the NT to draw DTs. And to your earlier point, yes it is much easier to find 3Ts than NTs as the job that they perform requires some specific physical requirements that are rare among average men.

There's a huge misunderstanding about what a NT is supposed to do. It's the reason Zimmer called Peko the best NT in the game while fans on this board called him meh because he didn't rush the passer much. What he did do is clog the middle and draw the double teams, which is exactly what he was supposed to do. I have hopes Jackson can be our next Peko.

They were dead last, but how could they not be when all the DT's seemed to be injured at the same time.

Wasn't there supposed to be a meeting with Hendrickson's agent this week?

All I hear is crickets. Though that might not be a bad thing. No negative leaks either.

As for the whole, "we were last in run D with Reader" argument, it is beyond stupid. It takes more than 1 guy. We were 27th in pass offense Burrow's rookie year, so getting rid of him would have been smart, right?

And, yes, I know Burrow got hurt that year. But so did Reader in 2023. Burrow played 10 games in 2020, Reader 14 in 2023. But QB is also more central to the passing game. And Reader was off the charts good in 2023. PFF had him at 82.2.

Reader graded out much higher than Hill in 2023.  This year coming back from his surgery Reader didnt put up as good numbers but he was still a good DT.  I do think the Bengals should try to bring back Hill unless they think they can get someone better to replace him.  We saw how well that worked with Rankins replacing Reader though.

I would rather have Hill over Rankins so I would cut Rankins and use that money for Hill.  We cannot go into next season counting on Rankins and the two rookies even though they showed some promise this year.

I don't think they will come out and tell everyone every time they meet with an agent. The Bengals are well known for being a tight lipped organization when it comes to front office dealings. We'll know when there's a deal, or when Hendrickson says there isn't one.
