The Raiders Are Shopping Mayer!
#1
The Raiders are trying to get rid of Mayer!

Quote:The Raiders are shopping Mayer on the trade market, Tashan Reed of The Athletic reports.

Following a decorated college career at Notre Dame, Mayer was selected No. 35 overall in the 2023 Draft by Las Vegas. He caught 27 passes for 304 yards and two touchdowns as a rookie, but the Raiders then used their first-rounder on Brock Bowers in 2024. Mayer appeared in just 11 games last season, and his playing time took a hit when he was available. He finished the season with 21 catches for 156 scoreless yards, and the Raiders appear to be willing to move him after just two years.

He hasn't had the chance to really break out because Bower came in after his rookie year but he'd kill it with Burrow throwing him the ball!

It would also open up our draft a lot!

Trade them Higgins for Mayer and a 4th or 5th rounder.

Lucky for us he didn't do well for them but I think he could be really good with us.

I wouldn’t do that deal. I would rather have a 2nd than Mayer. Maybe he was under-used but he didn’t show much and then a rookie came in, took his spot and was dominant.

I think he’s worth trading for but I would not include Higgins in the deal because Mayer has not proved anything. Plus the Bengals would probably force it and pick a WR in the first round.

I'd trade them a 5th or 6th round pick for Mayer he shouldn't go for much.

The most I'd give up for Mayer is a 6th rounder.

He has been in the league for 2 years and has done nothing, has already lost his starting job, has already left the team for personal reasons. When playing, he has not been dynamic or a game changer.

Raider need to keep him, have an actual productive season, and then trade him in 2026. Because they'd be selling at an all time low right now.

I was a huge Mayer fan coming out of ND. He had a very bad rookei year and he may be better with us or someone else. I see his value closer to a 6th round pick based on his production thus far.

Please use 2025 free agency to fix the trenches, not the draft!!!!!!!!

I’d give them 50$ for Mayer.
I’m feeling generous.
He could turn into a good player.

You might be able to get Kyle Pitts or Noah Fant for a day 3 pick, so it would need to be a late day 3 pick (or a 2026 day 3 pick) for Mayer.

If the Raiders are willing to take our 6th (or our 2026 5th) for him, I would do it and make him our TE2 because the talent was obviously there somewhere and I think that's a better gamble than whomever we would draft in the 6th.

Just can't let it keep us from still finding a solution at TE1.

That as an awful trade. How does the team get better with going from Tee to someone lesser at wr (no matter who they get they’ll be worse), and Geisicki to Mayer. That’s not even a wash. Geisicki is better, but Mayer is cheaper so that’s a plus.

I’d trade a 4th or 5th for Mayer. He hasn’t done anything in the nfl to warrant anything higher

Too high. Likely a 6 or 7. In a somewhat deep draft for TE a 4th/5th unknown might be the better gamble. All would have been better than Mayer if not for the injury.

I'm with you. A low draft pick is worth the flyer for him.

No. It is a deep draft at DT, DE, RB, and TE. We could get a decent player in the 5th or 6th.

Jake browning and Higgins for maxx Crosby, Mayer and a 3rd rd pick. I’m still working on my first cup of coffee so this may be tongue in cheek.

This would be ideal for them, but they target Bowers about 15-18 times a game. There's just not enough to spread around to their 2nd TE. You're not wrong, but he would be one hell of a target in the middle for JB, and he has great hands.

He could flourish here with JB. He was drafted early for a reason. I would be all for scooping him up at the right price.

I wouldn't give shit for him.  Nobody knows what he's capable of at the NFL level.  His want-to or lack thereof is the reason he's on the trading block 2 years after being drafted.  That's not a profile that screams give up actual draft capital to me.

People will want to paint the success of Bowers as a reason for the Raiders to dump Mayer.  This is a red herring.  Teams utilize multiple TEs all the time, and the Raiders aren't exactly burdened with a glut of weapons.  Even the reputationally TE averse Bengals plug in multiple TEs with some modicum of success.  Bowers shouldn't make Mayer expendable.  He should make him even better.

With players like this that are clearly in line for a divorce from their current team, the best policy is to wait it out.  This is even more true with Mayer.  The only reason you give a dime for him is to avoid another team getting him first.  Seeing that I doubt anyone gives anything for him, I'd just let his desire to be home walk him right back to Cincinnati if that's the case.

As a cheap, buy low candidate, there are worse options.

Poor Mayer, he accumulated some gaudy stats in College, playing in a system that force feeds the ball to the TE. I don't know what went wrong with him during his rookie campaign to cause the Raiders to instantly feel like the needed to still draft their franchise TE, but it happened. Something tells me that a guy who ran in the 4.7s and is known as a good blocker, but having "heavy feet" when running his routes isn't going to get much on the trade market. I agree with whomever it was that said he's TE2 material.

Volson is meh, but I like him, and he has far exceeded my expectations

A conditional 6th...in 2026.

I agree I that I wouldn't include Higgins if we didn't get a draft pick back, and maybe it would take an early round pick to make the trade for Higgins to make sense, but the Raiders need a receiver and, if we're going to lose Higgins next year anyways, then why not bring in Mayer?

Like I keep saying, people are underestimating just how much he could do for this offense with Burrow throwing him the ball. People were calling him Baby Gronk coming out of college and he still has that ability, it just needs to be unlocked.

Exactly, and I think being back home would allow him to focus and be better mentally, which would improve his game a lot.

He went to Notre Dame for college, which isn't exactly the big party school where he was out of his comfort zone. He's really just more of a calm dude that would get the job done and flourish here with Burrow throwing him the ball.

No one knows what he can do at the NFL level?

Rookie year highlights.

He had a nice rookie year and showed potential, and let's not forget that he didn't have Joe Burrow throwing him the ball or a receiver like Chase on the outside to take pressure away from him.
