BREAKING: Bengals give Trey Hendrickson permission to be traded
(03-10-2025, 12:15 PM)PCB Bengal Fan Wrote: Mahomes found the perfect fit, if he gets drafted by any team that was'nt Pitt, Balt, Philly or KC he's not gonna be the same. You think he'd be Burrow good if he was drafted by the Bengals with this O-line?

I think this greatly oversimplifies the situations. We have to ignore the fact that Mahomes was drafted in 2017 because that screws everything up, but if Mahomes replaces Burrow and everything else stays the same (Tee Higgins, Chase, etc.) then I absolutely think he becomes one of the best QBs in the league still. It just wouldn't be via the same manner.

They are elite QBs for different reasons. Burrow is better in-structure than Mahomes and Mahomes is better out of structure. If you put Mahomes on this team, he lights the league up because of how talented his weapons are and how good he is at evading pressure.

There are definitely teams where Mahomes doesn't turn into this guy, though, just like there are teams where Burrow doesn't turn into who he is. If Joe was drafted by someone like the Lions or Browns where they put Joe under center, heavy play-action and condensed sets, then I don't think he is the guy he is today. A notable part of Joe's success has been the coaching staff's willingness to implement an offense that Joe already excelled in during college. For the faults they have, they have done that very well.

Washington gave up several picks to acquire Laremy Tunsil from Houston. Wonder if this takes them of the Trey sweepstakes or they go all in and don’t draft much this year.

Albert Breer with SI is reporting that Hendrickson’s agent told the Bengals they could get a 1st round pick for him. That’s the point they told Trey to go for it.

That’s a big boast for a soon to be 31 year old no matter how good he’s been

I believe Commanders are out.

I’m wondering if the offers are any better from a contract standpoint

We certainly did not appear to be a team looking for DE1 today. Those are all gone..

If the Bengals stick to wanting a 1 for Trey odds are Trey will still be here.

Hendrrickson's team said they could deliver one...so far that seems to have been an empty boast

Or maybe it was a 2026 1st. Technically true, but not likely in the spirit of what the Bengals were actually wanting.

We can't replace Trey with a first round pick. We can't replace Trey with a DE for his 15,800 base salary in 2025. I know fans want to hate on the Bengals, but the team has the 30 and soon to be 31 DE under a very team friendly contract.

As I said earlier, there is the team, the player and the fans. Bengals fans mostly side with the player. I suggest fans look at this from a team standpoint. The same fans upset the team has not locked up Tee and Chase for 4 or 5 years are crying like a 2 year old we are not signing the free agents they want.

A fan of the team needs to be impartial and realize the team has all 3 guys locked into 2025. Do I want them to extend Chase? Yes, I do. Higgins is an expensive luxary a great QB like Burrow should not neet, just as MaHomes did not need Tyrek Hill. Trey wants a new contract. Would he take a ay cut if he did not play well in 2024 or was injured? My guess is no and way.

I think every fan realizes we need a guard or 2 as much or more than we need Tee Higgins. We need a proven DE/Edge to rush the passer on 3rd and long. Murohy, Assai or Johnson may be that guy, but they have yet to prove it. Trey is a great pass rusher and mediocre against the run. He is not Garrett or Watt, not even close.

The team could have Trey play on his current contract and then franchise tag the 31 going on 32 year od. His AVG per year would be 21 million a year. It would be a grand gesture to allow Trey to be traded for only a 1st round pick. He would be great for Tee and his new team and very bad for the Bengals in 2025. Do fans care about 2025, if so they would hope Trey plays on the current contract.

No one is talking about the franchise tag for Hendrickson. IMO I agree with you, its the smartest thing they can do. Make him play on his current contract and then tag him next year.

In all reality, though - that would piss Trey off to the max.

He has an option, find a team to give us multiple draft picks in 2025 with at least 1 being a #1.

He can be pissed off but is not like he can just stop performing. He is still playing to be paid in 2026.

Do you think Bengals FO is not running the numbers with keeping current contract and tag him in 2026? They would be not doing their due diligence if they did not.

They should just offer him a $10-12M bonus for what he's accomplished, let him play out his final year and go from there.

Volson is meh, but I like him, and he has far exceeded my expectations

Well I mean you can't treat your best players like robots. They have feelings and emotions. Players talk.

You can play hardball with guys and force them to play under their value. But, there are plenty of teams that won't.

And can only franchise tag 1 of Chase, Higgins, and Trey next year. So they need to get some deals done.

Our team basically sucked this past season outside of these 3, Burrow, and maybe a few other guys.

The biggest issue with Tee is letting him walk for nothing next year. Yes it’s a better team with him and he would get much more than the tag amount in FA but they can’t just let him walk. Next year they can’t tag him again because of the cost so if you can’t afford to extend him then get some picks for him now.
With the way things are going now I think they might be able to get a first rounder for him.
Trey the best they could get would probably be a 2 and another pick or a pick swap.

It makes the most sense to have Trey play this year under his current contract but I am not sure how that will work out in the end.

I agree with you. I mean I'd just sign the dude instead of tagging him. Im just looking at it from the Bengals perspetive.

The Chase deal will get done and Higgins can't be tagged next year, so its basically just on Trey.

The plyayer the Bengals have the biggest investment for 2025 of the big 3 as of now is Tee Higgins at over 26 million, then Chase at 21,6 and then Trey at 15,8.

The FO has a decision to make, but that decisiion can be made after the draft. The big 3 are under contract right now for 2025 so while the fan's urgency to get the deald done, the Bengals don't gain a lot by getting them done. They do not have to do anything to get over the cap and have money to spend still.

Fans - overly urgent
Teams - no urgency

And that is why we have fans freaking out.

Well it would seem no team is going to give up a 1 for Hendrickson, so hopefully he understands that now and signs a new deal right here. I'd give him a nice three year deal with heavy incentives on years 2 and 3.

They can only franchise Chase or Trey next season.  They can only franchise a player 2 seasons in a row so Tee is maxed out
