Bengals re-sign Mike Gesicki

Is Sample's job safe? It seems in 2025 Bengals are putting anyone who has not played well on notice. His cut would ony free up 2.5 million, but very little dead money. We also drafted another TE last year besides Ali.

Please use 2025 free agency to fix the trenches, not the draft!!!!!!!!

I hope our 1st and 2nd round picks address the trenches.

I agree. We'll see what else they do in free agency, but I wouldn't mind just taking the best DL or OL with each day 1 and day 2 pick.

Wow, 3 years eh?
That would put Gesicki at 32 years old when his contract ends.
Will be curious to see the cap breakdown by year, but I'd have to think this year will be lower.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. Ended 9-8 but barely missed playoffs

Changes needed to do better in Sept/Oct moving forward.

Sorry for Party Rocking!

This is also a hedge against not having tee Higgins under contract beyond 2025 (if he doesn’t get traded or extended). Put another way, he would be the only person on the bengals, outside of Chase, who has a 500 yard season and more than 600 receiving yards.

Only Chase, Higgins, Boyd, green and Mike… have 500 or more yards catching passes from burrow. People talk about how great the bengals are at drafting WR, but really its bleak… when you either have home runs, or essentially non contributors.

Good news. Joe was wanting Mike G back and I bet they have a much better year now that they have chemistry, specifically in the Red Zone
where he should be much more of a weapon than just 2 TD's. Was expecting around 8.5 mil per year.

3 years is the best part to me and he does stay relatively healthy.

Hoping we get Ja'Marr's contract done and out of the way and bring in either Jonathan Allen or bring back BJ Hill next.

Deal makes sense. Low cash outlay it seems so they still can do other work.

Well I'm sure the draft will be very defense heavy. Hopefully we bring in a guard or two and some defense in free agency.

I've heard it's 12mil cash this year with 6-7 mil cap hit year 1.

He did good for himself. He took a pay cut for only 2.5 million last year, and now gets rewarded.

I like this.
If you see something suspicious, say something suspicious.

I think the Bengals are telling us they aren't going to be able to invest a pick in TE this draft haha. Tanner, Mike and Drew are probably the trio we're going into camp with, unless someone significant falls in the draft.

The only TE that I would consider in the draft is Tyler Warren if he falls, because he's so versatile, and a good blocker for RBs and Burrow. With the Gesicki signing, I would take Loveland off the draft board for the 1st pick because he is similar to Gesicki in terms of skillset and is not at this stage a good blocker.  But I suspect with the Gesicki signing, this is going to be a defense first draft -- unless they have an unexpectedly good free agency for the defense or Tee ends up leaving and they need a WR.

I did not say big contract, MG was not big contract, i stll see Pratt as a loss, hubbard retired, hilton gone rankin terrible year but still gone, depth is bad, to me if we lose trey and BJ i dont see us getting much better

Trey is the only one of significance that you mentioned.  The rest  can be easily replaced, have been replaced(Dax will be better than Hilton at Nickle), and should be replaced.

Jessie Bates left the Bengals and that makes me sad!

Gesicki won me over by the end of last season. I certainly like this much more than the other TE signing.

This may mean Tee is gone.

If not I get back of the roster guys signing that won’t make it out of camp but extending Mike for 3 years before Hill or Hilton if you are talking priorityish free agents is surprising.

It is about what he is worth to our offense not what he did for the Pat's.

He is much more valuable than a 180-pound DB that cannot cover the pass or D-lineman that got 3 sacks.

He's super reliable looks like he's only missed 1 game in his entire 7 year career.  Remember he's essentially a TE/3WR.  I'm not sure how the deal is structured but I think it's going to be team friendly with most of the deal locked up in year 1.

Welcome back and WHO DEY!

Yes, bringing Mike back was a good thing. He and Joe found a groove. I would have been happier if the deal was a bit lower, but it's not outrageous. Now, if we can only get him tuned up on that blocking thing...

Volson is meh, but I like him, and he has far exceeded my expectations

12 but I am happy Gesicki is back and he could live up to this contract and it wouldn't surprise me.

I was just going off of what he did last year and the numbers don't back up that contract, but the upside does. We will see. 3 years is the best

You should be thrilled. Gesicki got 25.5 for 3 years and not 2 years. Likely also only 13 or 14 million guaranteed as well for 3 years.
