They're Done!!! Our long wait is over
(03-17-2025, 12:13 PM)SunsetBengal Wrote: Exactly, what we had last year wasn't enough. Any news on how the cap shakes out, after the extensions are applied?

The issue last year was we had 5-6 top end players, then there was a huge dropoff to the middle of the roster.

All we're doing now is ensuring we keep the top end players at a much higher price.

We added a couple marginal free agents. Maybe the run defense is better? But, we need pass rush. We need coverage.

And...as unfortunate as it is, guys will get hurt. Don't know who, but it will happen.

Right now, were counting on Ossai and Murphy...and I don't know that's wise.

Would you agree any team losing 2 starting CB's would struggle in coverage?

I agree with you, but hopefully we don't see the massive injury issues we saw at both CB and also DT. We lost Rankins and Hill in the same game. Jackson and Jenkins also missed time last year. So, we had all 4 top DT's injured and 2 were rookies. I love the Slayton addidtion and I am bullish on our now 2nd year DT's for 2025.

I do agree also, I would love to see us sign a proven pass rusher to use on 3rd down.

Please use 2025 free agency to fix the trenches, not the draft!!!!!!!!

I agree.
Romo “ so impressed with Zac ...1 of the best in the NFL… they are just fundamentally sound. Taylor the best winning % in the Playoffs of current coaches. Joe Burrow” Zac is the best head coach in the NFL & that gives me a lot of confidence." Taylor led the Bengals to their first playoff win since 1990, ending the longest active drought in the four major North American sports, en and appeared in Super Bowl LVI, the first since 1988.

I would liken this to a Riley Rieff type bridge vet that with a 2 year deal with some guaranteed money in the 2nd year.  Like Rieff they were willing to have some dead money in case of injury but had to have it to sign him.  High end you'd land Scherff if he fits the scheme well enough, or even a Lucas Parrick.  You need a capable starter in place even for a year, the other guard spot can be for competition....not both.

I'm so excited today. Chase, of course, I knew would be signed. But I wanted both Ja'Marr and Tee, and I'm delighted we will be able to see both of them on the field.

Yes, I know the Bengals need defensive studs and OGs to compete for a championship, but at least three of the four best players on the Bengals -- and three of the best players for the Bengals all-time -- are locked in for a number of years.

I am happy the wait is over, but believe the Bengals over paid for a WR who cannot stay healthy.

They need to get help on the interior o-line.

I hope this does not hamper that process.

Currently the Bengals have good back ups at guard, but no proven starters.

IIRC Scherff was a teammate of Reiff at Iowa and when Reiff went to the NFL replaced him as LT. Reiff then played under Scott Peters at the Patriots so hopefully Scherff’s former College teammate can give a positive reference for both franchise and coach.

Hmm, interesting tidbits there TJ. Cool

It's not like every guy will be playing.

You need special teamers in drafts and depth.

It is hard to say what Golden's vision is could go a few different ways.

Once the Guard issue is fixed, I don't see a lot of holes on D.

Does Golden want a shutdown corner. Is the DB group good enough for now.

Is Geno good enough or do we need a safety.

If we play 3 LB and Pratt is gone, do we need 2 LB in this draft.

Do we need a pass rusher at LDE or is that MM job.

Interior pass rush is probably the biggest deficiency on the roster right now - worse than Cody Ford and Cordell Volson at guard bad.

So the offensive weapons are the same, no change to the O line yet, still need a D pass rush, LB’ s who can cover and corners you can cover. So how are we any better than last year?

Defense wins super bowls and offense is eye candy. When are we going to learn, you can’t out score very one to win.

We got 8 D-lineman with 4 starters If you give LDE to MM.

Stopping the run is a bigger issue in the AFC North then interior pass rush.

Could we use it yeah, but do we need it over a shutdown corner or a LB to replace Pratt or a safety to replace Geno.

It is far from the top of my list of issues that need fixed.

It all depends on Golden and what he thinks are the needs.

There’s still some truth to the first part of the bold (albeit it’s a bit of a boomer-ish take at this point), but the other half is just pure nonsense. QB’s and WR’s are paid what they are due to their impact on the game, not to solely be “eye candy.”

It. Takes. Both.

We saw what happens when you play with half of a team, offense only and no defense. Offense puts butts in the seats, it’s flashy and exciting, but that will not win you games against other offensive teams, we proved that last year.

If they don’t address the defense, don’t expect any different results.

9 of the last 10 Super Bowl champions were top ten in offense.

Obviously defense is also very important. It’s not MORE important than offense. That’s always been a myth.

So you need a defense to pass rush and force turnovers and have an elite offense.

We have to go through Bills and Chiefs.
