Notes from Voluntary Practice

In other news the Bengals have a Long Snapper competition in camp between Cal Adomitis and William Wagner!

We're gonna have to see what kind of moustache and long hair Wagner can grow. It's become a Cincinnati tradition

I really like Matt lee in pass protection, but Seth could be the more rounded Center for us in the future and Matt does play Guard.

Seth is a very cerebral and technical player. I don't know if he'll make a splash in the NFL, but I'm pulling for him. I'm not sure that he's physically cut out for facing NTs on a regular basis, but he's pretty smart and effective versus even fronts. Those 31" arms are somewhat limiting for him.

Quote:Overview

Highly intelligent center-only prospect coming off of an Achilles tear. McLaughlin has his itinerary fully mapped pre-snap but makes quick alterations when needed. He’s gritty with good core strength. He has the range and radar to pull effectively and operates with timing on work-up blocks. He lacks ideal knock-back pop at the point and his block sustain could take a small downturn against NFL power. He’s technically sound in protection but a lack of length and range causes it to get leaky when rushers find his edge. His injury status could hurt his draft slotting, but he has the makeup and consistency to make it in the league.

Strengths
Fast eyes to process moving fronts and adjust his work.
Plays with clever positioning and measured movements in the run game.
Strong core with above-average contact balance at the point of attack.
Chops and runs his feet once he fits into first- and second-level blocks.
Good recognition of games up front and blitzers off second level.
Slides and mirrors with good balance, consistent base and inside hands.

Weaknesses
Possesses average reactive athleticism in tight spaces.
Below-average pop on initial block when working his combos.
Stubby arms make him susceptible to push/pulls by two-gappers.
Lacks the length and range to effectively save the A-gaps in protection.
Will get bounced into the quarterback's workspace by power on occasion.
Suffered season-ending Achilles injury in November.

Volson is meh, but I like him, and he has far exceeded my expectations

Luckily he's a C, so the arm length is the least important for him, compared to other OL. Linderbaum had the same issue.

Thanks Sunset. I am pulling for him as well, very likable fella and he is smart as that is one of his big time strengths. It is okay to be stubby at
Center as long as you can make up for it with technique which is also a strong suit of his. We should have some very good competition for backup
Center at the very least now with both McLaughlin and Lee.

I don’t know if it’s because I fear holes still in the roster, but I’m feeling like a nice chunk of the udfa can stick. I might like that class better than the draft class (initially).

Won’t participate in anything other than meetings until they are under contract. Stewart was hoping that would be done by Monday

Is that a relatively new rule that rookies can't participate without a contract?

Jessie Bates left the Bengals and that makes me sad!

Pickens on the Steelers gets shipped off to Siberia.  Burton on the Bengals still hangs around until or unless the police come and physically take him away.  Just saying.  Imagine Burton being under any Super Bowl champion regime and hanging around as he has here.  It just doesn't happen on legitimate championship contenders.  There are no pajama star types who hang around.  Imagine the psychological effect that it has on other players that Burton hasn't been shit canned yet.  That the FO looks back on Pacman being a good signing or something when he shit the bed like a (nine censored words in row).  This is not a serious Super Bowl contender team jmho.  They are going to waste Burrow's career just as they did Geno's and Whitworth's because they go along to get along.  They have yet to prove me wrong.

Getting traded to the Dallas Cowboys isn’t quite like being sent to Siberia, even in the NFL. In fact for a wide receiver, he’s going to a place where he has an actual QB
Burton is coming off his rookie season and has a very short leash. I for one would like to see if he has figured things out before he gets dumped by the team

I'm skeptical. Someone who cares about this guy should tell him the story of Chris Henry. I know there is a lot of love for Chris on these boards but he is a case of someone who got a lot of chances and made bad decisions over and over. And Slim was relatively together compared to Burton. To me it feels like when not if Burton does something else destructive to his life, those around him, and this team.

There are more than a few NFL players who came into the league with red ****. Travis Kelcie was one. I agree Pally, see if he can grow up and be contribute. If not, then cut him. I also agee he is on a short lease.

On Pickens, strage comment made by the poster you responded. Siberia would have been trshing Pickens so no NFL team would give him a shot again in the NFL, then cut him.

It has been awhile, but I don't recall Henry having issues on the field. I still remember the playoff game when Palmer through a bomb to Henry, I am at the game and place is goig wild. I see out of the corner of my eye Palmer laying on the ground. Then to add insult to injury, Henry injured his knee on the same play.

Henry's issues seemed to be off the field, but maybe someone else remembers something I missed.

I don't know what it is with Pit and Malcontent WRs. Recent ones who come to mind are;

Antonio Brown
Claypool
Dionte Johnson
Pickens.

I do give them credit for parting ways with them.

After watching the rookies minicamp locker room interview, I was impressed with the presentation by Barrett who presents himself as a team captain already and Brooks. Shemar Stewart on the other hand  presented himself like a middle schooler

Also, I am hearing that shemar Stewart 's. Agent is not liked by many in the NFL.
