Like this pick a whole lot and so far the draft is going as I expected. Always thought the Defense would get rounds 1,2,and 4, with the offense getting 3, and then Bengals going to BPA from 5th on.

Would normally think BPA in every round but the Defense was so porous that Golden had to have been told he was getting early picks just to lure him here to coach such a bad Defense. Especially after focusing so much on the Offense in offseason even if it was signing their own.

Maybe I am way off base but just felt this would be the strategy. Although admittedly I know nobody with inside info and this is just what I would have done and may not even be their plan.

Yet think it's a solid pick and the Bengals have definitely had success with Georgia players before and giving up so little in the SEC is very interesting. Whitworth did similar in sacks given up in college in SEC as well except from the LT position. Believe Mims already being here will help in his transition into the league as well per already have a working relationship and probably a friendship with Dylan too.

Excited, welcome aboard Mr Fairchild !

I might take a RB but would still let Golden pick 3 more guys for defense.

Offense is set maybe one of the vet guards in FA after the draft.

I'm a big Fairchild fan brings some nasty competitiveness that the OL is lacking.

Brandon Thorn is the best OL draftnik in Media. If you haven't read or watched any of his stuff I suggest doing so.

Here is Thorn's scouting report for Dylan Fairchild.

Questionable processing skills against delayed blitzes, late loopers, and line games leave him a tick late picking up secondary rushers.

He’ll fit right in. Tongue

I do like the wrestling background though.

I rate this pick pretty good. Position of need filled by a really good prospect from Georgia. I don't think they could have done better in the 3rd for a guard, so there is that.

I'm relieved that we took a guard.

They must have really, really, really, really liked Demetrius Knight to take him instead of Tate Ratledge in the 2nd round and then draft Fairchild a round later (who, by all accounts is a significantly worse prospect than Ratledge).

This is not how I would have drafted, but taking Fairchild, even if it was a reach, pulls this draft up from the F range to be closer to a C-.

We also have Matt Lee on the roster, almost forgot about him. Can he play right guard?

Again, maybe a tad early for the player. But at least we reached for need.

Only beefs are too early and not azplug & play starter.

Yates: #114 (Rd4 grade)
Miller: #96
Jeremiah: Not in top 150 that I saw

Do you realize our next pick is @119 so if not picked by us at 81, he would be lone gone in round 4. Your 4 round grade trying to diss on the pick is 114, we drafr at 119.

Why do fans not realize teams (not just us) have to grab guys earlier than their ranking or lose their guy?

I say it again, The Coaches like the draft so far, and that means more to me than the negatives on this site always bashing The Bengals.

GO BENGALS

Tiger  Who Dey  Tiger

Yep our fan base is loaded with negative wannabe GM's who in many cases have not watched the guys they bash play a game or if they did had no focus on them.

But they know all. It gets old.

True

But I pointed out the Bengals ran to the podium with the Knight pick. You don't do that unless you got your guy and will not even consider a trade back in my opinion.

Then Golden said he was his guy. It is one thing to say he liked the pick, but another to say he waited anxiously since the night before (once round 1 ended) for him to get to us with the 17h pick in round 2.

Also fans dismiss he was at least the 3rd best LB on our board. If Bengals had another LB at #3, they would have drafted him as only top 2 LB's were gone.

It’s alway easier after the fact to whine about a pick and when they **** it up it’s forgotten in the annals of time.

Sure, I don't have reason to doubt that they really liked the guy. I rather wonder whether that means he is actually good.

But whatever, let's just root for the Golden Knight, no one knows anyway. I might just be argueing for I don't quite agreed with going LB in the first place.

Good pick, definitely the type of guy we're looking for. On another note, that GA OL looked pretty smooth at passing rushers off to one another when the defense tried to loop and stunt.

At a high contact position like OL, you can never go wrong by picking a player with a wresting background, especially a highly prolific background like Fairchild's. Dude went 67-0 over his Jr. and Sr. year with two State Titles in the HW Division.
