Does it really matter?  Every game, stupid mistakes, horrible pitching with walks.  Same game, different day.

Well, not a lot of positives to take from this, but, of the measly little two hits, Steer was one of them. I'm tellin' ya . . . he's coming back.

Trevino with his 10th double in 94 plate appearances. Stephenson's career best was last year when he hit 26 doubles in 515 plate appearances. Trevino is catcher #1 in my book.

The bullpen gave up only 2 earned runs in 14 2/3 innings in this series for a combined 1.23 ERA. Suter is quickly gaining my respect and Lyon Richardson might be here for good. He looks almost nothing like his first callup in 2023. That season in the minor leagues last year really did him some good as he looks like a seasoned vet. The first HBP was barely inside, so I don't blame him for that, but the second one did get away from him. I'd love for Abbott to go deep in a game for once on Tuesday and give these guys another day off.

And I'm not too down on Francona yet. He's still learning this roster and finding out their limitations in real time. I liked his answer about the balance of sending guys down. He said "I didn't want to send anyone down that didn't deserve it. We're trying to build something and I think that loyalty and all of that comes into play." He explained that as his reason for being "caught short handed" with 12 2/3 innings needed from the bullpen in the last two games. He laid all that out to the team/bullpen and also apologized to them for putting them through that. Basically, he was saying, in hindsight, that he should have sent someone down for a fresh arm after yesterday's 6 2/3 innings from the pen.

He's saying all of the right things . . . something that I rarely said about Bell and his monotone press conferences. I still hate the sound of his voice.

Whne do we begin discussing the trade deadline? I mean for who we can pawn off on someone else for a prospect of 2. I'd say Martinez is a fine candidate. Maybe Hays, maybe Singer? Idk.

The inability to score is becoming a theme. About half of their 22 losses are by one run or zero.

A couple weeks ago I was pretty high on this team, I've fell back to earth a good bit. So far in May they're 4-7 and in 5 of those losses they have scored a grand total of 2 runs, yes TWO runs, being shut out 3 times. This offense struggles mightily against any kind of averaging pitching and above. As a team they can't handle off speed pitching. So many players out injured including 6 pitchers.

That's the bad news. The good news is 6 of their next 9 games are against bad teams - White Sox, Pirates. The other bad news is the rest of their May schedule is Guardians, Royals, and Cubs all of whom are good teams. So......

They better make some hay vs. W. Sox and Pirates or we could finish May well below .500

Bobby Witt Jr's hits spray chart.

We just don't hit and use the whole field.

An article by Kirk Herbstreit sums up my sentiments exactly. How can the Reds not hit for 12 years. Different players, different coaches and same results. This is where hitters come to die.

Crazy thing is this was the cake part of the schedule and we still got shutout 10 times. The White Sox series is the final piece of that cake.

After them we have a 15(!) series stretch where 13 of the series are against teams that have a winning record right now (and 1 of the 2 who don't is the Brewers who have owned us for years).

Things might get real real ugly soon.

That's what I'm afraid of. Middle of June and the season will be essentially over.....again. 15 games below .500 or whatever?

Why does this team struggle so bad with injuries and just bad hitting and fundamentals?

I blame Skyline Chili. They’ve been the Reds sponsor for what seems like forever. The Reds have been bad for what seems like forever. Bengals made the switch from Gold Star and haven’t reached the playoffs since. Coincidence? I think not!

I am now curious what team in MLB history has been shut out the most in a single season.

If I believe Google AI, it was the 1908 St Louis Cardinals, who were shut out 33 times.

Apparently, the season was only 154 games in 1908.

The Reds have been shut out in 7 of 42 games, so they are on pace for 27 shutouts.

If we're going to break that record, we gotta ramp up our rate a bit.

They took McLain out of the two hole and put him 8th, makes more sense.

Good. Would have made more sense about a month ago before his spent the last 30 days batting 2nd and hitting .151/.301/.215.

Terry operating at retirement speed.

I said once, and I’ll say it again, this team is a cluster f**k.

infielders running outfielders (EDLC) trying to be Mr Baseball,  base running blunders, strike out too much, and can’t get runners in.

This story is getting old and has been going on for years.
