Is Shemar holding out?
(Yesterday, 02:30 PM)Nate (formerly eliminate08) Wrote: Guess we are forgetting Ja'Marr and Tee. I get it, the FO sucks, but we don't to have ignore certain things to slam them. I loved the Shemar Stewart
pick after I watched his film and saw his abilities, but he should of just signed the damn contract and practiced. As was stated, Travis Hunter isn't signed
and he is practicing and is all about ball. I wish our 1st round pick was doing the same.

Top 5 pick Ja'Marr Chase couldn't get what he wanted, two years ago, neither did Tee or Trey. Chase became a triple crown to get his contract. Tee had Chase and Burrow beating the table for him after he was franchise tag. Trey played after his trade request, led the league in sacks, and is still not getting what he wants, fair or not. Us fans can take whatever sides we want, but players will likely believe their fellow players side of things. As a player, I would think that even if I do well, I may not get contract love from the Bengals. In the end, do they think the language is a deal breaker for them? If so, maybe you should have been more selective with your draft pick.

He needs to do a Tee, fire this clown and hire one who understands what negotiating is and tell his Dad to zip it for a while.

My understanding about the difference between what the Bengals are trying and other teams is other teams pay way more up front where as the Bengals are trying not to. Sort of a wanting their cake and eating it too situation vs what other teams do. Fully agree Shemar looks like a complete turd in his way of handling this though.

In the end Ja'Marr ended up being the highest paid non-QB in the NFL. Joe, Ja'Marr and Tee are all happy. Trey could of taken at least 2 offers by
now that nearly double his salary this year. I agree it took years but in the end as long as they are all paid and happy it doesn't really matter to me.

Agree on they maybe should of been more selective with their draft pick if this Shemar crap goes on, sounds like it is clearly his agent advising him
here though. I think the common thread here is the FO is not going to overpay and the agent's besides Ja'Marr's are the problem.

If Hendrickson and Stewart sit the season out, it would serve them both right if the Bengals went on to win the Super Bowl without them.

So the FO should just agree to any amount the players ask for? In Stewart's case it isn't about the amount, but a FAFO clause that has him worried for some reason.

Yes, a DL of Murphy/Hill/Slaton/Ossai is absolutely going to win us a SB.

That's not the only thing though. If you're going to have that language, then it comes down to the guarantee payout. If other teams are doing it equitably, the Bengals should do the same. Introducing the language and then trying say a 20/80 or 30/70 split from signing to future, isn't fair. If it's a 50/50 split, Stewart doesn't really have a leg to stand on.
To me this is all starting to be a joke. First let me say, the FO does screw the pooch a time or two and we have every right to be pissed at them. Now, there have been many post on here, calling for the Bengals to start operating like other winning franchises. Like paying more guarantee money, structuring contracts or whatever. Enter the Knucklehead clause and the FO institutes that into this years contracts and are vilified for it, because Stewart doesn't want it.

You never know if Murphy grows big time this year, he is talented. We needed a NT badly and Slaton fills that spot, BJ is solid as it gets, Ossai
was our second best pass rusher last season and could thrive in Golden's Defense. Kris Jenkins and McKinnley Jackson could also grow into damn
good DT's, Cam Sample is finally healthy and is solid etc.

Our Offense was really clicking late last season on that 5 game winning streak and if they pick up where they left off could be the best passing
Offense in the NFL this season if our guys stay healthy and the OL is upgraded a bit.

Regardless, we need Trey in there though.

So answer me this, what is the difference? IF I have a contract that say I am to be paid $30M guaranteed for the life of this contract, 18M at signing 12M at the beginning of year 3 or 15M now and 15M later? You are still gonna get 30M

$18m now is $3m more than $15 now. That's a big difference.

That's $3m that YOU get to make money off of through investments for 2 years instead of the team making money off of it before you get it. Say you make a conservative 7% off of it in year 1 and then 7% more in year 2.

You just turned that $3,000,000 into $3,434,700. So you get +$434,700.

Meanwhile say you DON'T get that $3m now and instead you get it two years from now... inflation is a thing and that $3m will be worth less than it was two years ago. $3m in 2023 is now equal to $3,165,043 in 2025. So not only are you losing the opportunity to make money on your money, you're also having your eventual payout be worth less.

- - - - - - - -
So between the two, it is a ~$599,743 difference on if you get that $3m today or if you get it 2 years from now.

(Obviously this is a little simplified and there's a lot more things involved in it, but the premise is the same.)

Not if they void the contract due to language. Guys with the clause in their contracts have been getting paid more upfront. The Bengals aren’t doing that, but still want the clause. Typical Family penny pinching…

I wouldn't put anything past this offense. A healthy Burrow, Chase, Higgins, Yoshi, Burton and Gisecki, with Brown, Perine, Tahj running the rock and an improved Oline. Not very many teams will be able to keep up if Burrow has even a second more on most snaps. But you can wallow in negativity. And for the record, I didn't say it would happen, I said it would serve them right to miss out on what is probably Hendrickson's last shot.

They were a prolific offense last year and didn’t even make the playoffs.  Don’t see any improvements to the defense or the offensive line either (plugging in a 3rd round pick and journeyman backup isn’t an improvement).  Guess we’re just hoping Al Golden can squeeze more juice out of the players than Lou did…sounds more like hope and prayers than an actual plan.

Oh, you don't see any improvements over last year when all out DT's were hurt at the same time and Logan Wilson needed knee surgery? Ok...  Cool

What t3 said. This clause let's them void the guarantees so whatever he doesn't get paid at the start, he is at risk of losing. The Bengals are trying not to pay the bigger upfront guarantees like all the other teams do. So would you rather have 20mil up front and only 10 at risk or 5mil up front and 25 at risk?

Odds are adding Shemur and Trey won't either.

But hey, keep beating the same sign Trey to 35 million drum. There is a slim chance with Trey we get to an win a Super bowl.

Bengals Super Bowl Odds Insights

The Bengals rank seventh-best in the NFL in terms of Super Bowl odds (+2000). However, our computer rankings are much less optimistic, ranking them 17th, a difference of 10 spots.

The Bengals sport a 4.8% chance of winning the Super Bowl, based on their most recent odds (+2000).

Can we stop the BS that Trey makes us Super Bowl locks?

Last I checked 4.8% odds sucks.
