Is Shemar holding out?

He cannot go back and play for the NCAA again, which means he wouldn't be playing at all this year. That would NOT increase his draft value. He would be losing out on millions of dollars in first-round money if he holds out to reset his options. Money that he would never ever recover over the course of his career.

I'n beginning to think this young man needs a more experienced agent. His agent is young with only 3 active players under contract...all on rookie deals. This behavior clause is not the hill to die on

It would be legally challenging..among other things for stewart to attempt to play another year in college...I see this differently..he is staying in shape and working out in his comfortable confines at Texas A&M...next few weeks should prove to be jnteresting

Is it true that he cannot return to the NCAA? I always thought they couldn't return once they signed with an agent because they then became a pro. Now that college athletes are being paid to play in college through NIL, in essence they are already pros, so that argument seems moot.

Someone will challenge that rule, I'm sure, but as of now, it is still against the rules to go through the draft and then return to NCAA eligibility for that sport

It's next season and I'm hopeful

From the NCAA Director of Enforcement dated November 26, 2024

https://ncaaorg.s3.amazonaws.com/enforcement/2025ENF_NFLEducationMemo.pdf

Quote:If you are three years removed from your high school graduation date, you may enter
the NFL Draft one time during your collegiate career without jeopardizing your
eligibility; provided you are not drafted by any team and you declare your intention to
resume intercollegiate participation within 72 hours following the NFL's draft declaration
date. This declaration of intent must be in writing to your director of athletics. Student-
athletes who enter the NFL Draft early are required to sign and have notarized a petition
for special eligibility with the NFL, which renounces all remaining collegiate eligibility
unless revoked within 72 hours of the draft declaration date.

So he would have to challenge legally to return to college from my understanding.

I will extremely disappointed if he gets hurt while training at A&M. Why risk injury there, but skip our voluntary camps because you are afraid of injury?

I would be very disappointed if neither Trey or Shemur are at TC. If so, a huge blunder by our FO and in my opinion a self inflicted wound.

So sick of this bum, at this point just let him go back to school or sit out the season.

Won't sign a waiver to practice with us but is willing to risk injury practicing at A&M.

This is what I found. The CBA actually accounts for this. If he goes back to college, the Bengals retain his rights for 2026, if he goes to the CFL or another league, the Bengals hold his rights for 3 years. He would have to do nothing in 2025 to be eligible for the 2026 dtaft and the Bengals could not draft him if he sits out.

Somewhat surprisingly, the CBA contemplates the possibility that a drafted player will instead go back to college. Here’s the language, from Article 6, Section 6: “If any college football player who becomes eligible for the Draft prior to exhausting his college football eligibility through participation is drafted by an NFL Club, and returns to college, the drafting Club’s exclusive right to negotiate and sign a Player Contract with such player shall continue through the date of the Draft that follows the last season in which the player was eligible to participate in college football, and thereafter the player shall be treated and the Club shall have such exclusive rights as if he were drafted in such Draft by such Club (or assignee Club).”

In English, this means that, if Stewart returns to college football in 2025, he’d be treated as a draft pick of the Bengals in 2026. Which means that he wouldn’t be permitted to re-enter the draft next year.

What a terrible pick.

But nothing surprises me with this franchise. Nothing at all.

Bengals are fine with this. They want the ability to claw back money without shilling out additional guarantees. To them, this is more important than happy players and winning games.

The Front Office needs to either reel Shemar Stewart in or cut the line. This might have been the Bengals’ biggest first round mistake ever; even worse than Cedric Ogbuehi. Stewart and his agent are going to lose the entire contract and if it happens, fine. The player is obviously not committed to bleeding orange and black and working to win a Super Bowl — so we don’t need him.

Kelsey Conway killed the bad rumor about Stewart going back to college.

what i read he is not participating with Texas A&M, he is working out which is a positive sign to me, why workout if you are really thinking hard about reentering the draft, all speculation regardless, hopefully something breaks this week

Depending on who you hear it from, both here and nationally, it will be portrayed as either the Bengals' fault or Shemar's fault.

I was a big fan of the Shemar pick because of raw talent, but if there's anyone who ever needed all the coaching they could get, it's Shemar. They have to get him signed by TC, he can't afford to miss a day.

Hope I'm wrong but even if we get this guy in the fold you really have to start wondering if he wants to be a Bengals and or in the NFL in general.

I'm just disappointed that the FO couldn't vet this guy better... even on draft night he didn't appear to be happy.
