Trey Hendrickson Update
So do people believe there will be a holdout (if Trey sticks to what he said and the Bengals don't offer something different it sounds inevitable)? How many games do you think Trey misses this year?

I say no. I think Trey and his agent come to the realization Bengals have him under contract and any bonus or raise in 2025 is better than getting fined starting when he misses any team activity and then if he holds out, he lose almost 1 million per game + fines. It is money he will never be able to recoup.

This feels like a Cris Jones situation with the Chiefs but we wont give Tre the contract like Chiefs did. I personally believe based off everything Tre has said no way he plays on current deal. So if neither side flinches we could be looking at Murphy and Stewart as our starting DE for the forseeable future unless something gives.

The current deal is totally meaningless. NO ONE ON EITHER SIDE THINKS HE'LL PLAY ON THAT DEAL NEXT YEAR. NOR ARE THEY ASKING HIM TO.

That's why they offerent him a new deal already.

The question on if he'll holdout on his current deal is meaningless when he has an offer for $28 mil on the table.

They question is will he hold out when $28 (or more) is on the table.

I legit think both sides must be pretty far off and I could see him sit one or two games. Then he's back to speed a few weeks in. They should look at another vet DE even if they're 60% the player Trey is.

2) We blew $11 mil in space on the Tee/Chase deals.
3) A Burrow resteucture would free up $19 mil.
4) Pratt & Volson are still in the roster ($9.5 mil between the two).
5) Why keep Moss? ($3.5 mil, IIRC).

That is around $40 mil in extra cap space would could have opened up. $28 of which is still on the table.

But with keeping Ossai & Sample and drafting a DE high, I don't think an outside DE was a good allocation of resources.

Which is probably why the Bengals offer was 28 million. He declined.

Especially for a pass first, empty set offense.

We picked up a couple of recievers, and with Gisecki and Hudson I think Burrow has plenty of targets to throw to.

Depends on how stupid he is. I don't know him so I can't really say. Every game he sits is money he'll never get back

If he wants more money hard to see him holding out and getting less. A deal will get done.

I don't think he can "Afford" to sit out games. If he's already complaining about the guarantees he isn't going to let a few million that was guaranteed go back to the team.

This is a distraction that doesn't help the club.

Yeah. But the offer is $28, not his current deal.

And an outside DE or Ossai + a pick always seemed like the plan. Not both. Trey, Murphy, and Johnson are under contract. That's 5. With Trey + the pick or Ossai as the staters + Murphy the top 4. Johnson was pretty good in limited snaps. And they brought Sample back. He can even play inside some, though we'll see how he looks post injury.

I mean, I get your point. Trey has almost no leverage. He is under contract this year (at $16) and we can tag him twice. The DE tag for 2025 is $22 mil. Say it goes up to $25 in 2026 and $30 in 2027. Big ifs. 16 + 25 + 30 = 71. And that is year to year, no guarantees. $41 over the first two.

$28 mil x 2 is $56. $15 more. That ain't peanuts.

Trey wants Hunter's deal ($35.6 mil) or better ,with more years. Hunter is 30. Same as Trey.

We should give it to him. Fully guaranteed 1st year, mostly guaranteed 2nd, and partially guaranteed 3rd.

Garrett got 6/$205 with $124 guaranteed. 4 year extension. He is 29.

Crosby got 3/$103 with $91 guaranteed. Crosby is 27.

Garrett is younger & better. Trey is better than Crosby or Hunter.

Maybe the APY should be lower than Hunter's with a longer deal.

But crap, whatcare we talking about here? $3-$4 mil. Get rid of Volson or Pratt and get it done.

Crosby has a guarantee at signing of 62,5 million, long way from 91.5 million. He has to hit conditions so not guaranteed.

Garrett has a guarantee at signing of less than 60 million, long way from 123 million, same as Crosby, has to meet conditions.

I just wish fans would report truth and facts.

It literally says in that link he has 123 million total guaranteed. Not sure what the difference of 60 million guaranteed at signing and 123 million total guarantees. But the truth and fact seems to be clear as people just relaying what it says for total.

I would also like to point out that the fact the Bengals don't give the same guarantees other teams do is not a fan theory or fans being misleading. It's fans listening to what is reported around the league.

I doubt Hudson makes the 53, he wouldn't even be in the league if not for Bengals, but what receivers did we pick up capable of stepping in if one of the 3 Chase, Tee, Yoshi goes down?

Trey has more going on in life then the NFL. Playing football isn't his top priority. He is extremely religious and a family first man. He's had one foot out the door with thoughts and threats of retirement for the last couple year. I wouldn't doubt his threat.

If he wants to retire, he can and there's not much the Bengalscan do about it. But he is whining about not getting enough money for his family, so I doubt that is his plan.  And as I type that, I can't help but laugh at the statement that 28 mil per is not enough money for his family, for playing a game. He needs to freaking grow up.

I wonder if Joe Burrow would play for 28 million a year. Maybe we should cut all the players that think they're value is high and only sign guys that are willing to play for the minimum. I'm sure our coaches and FO will really get them to play beyond they're abilities. Gotta love someone complaining about whining by whining about it.
