Pratt had more than a few good moments. He was a very good player for the Bengals after years of busts at that position but yes it was time to move on.

Andy Reid seems to have that effect on the Divisions in which he coaches. When he was in NFC East, Redskins brought Joe Gibbs, Cowboys brought Bill Parcells and Giants hired Coughlin. They ended Eagles domination of NFC East. 

Now you have Sean Payton, Carrol and Harbaugh. The days of Chiefs dominating AFCW and getting to 4 straights SBs is ending. It is a matter of time when these coaches get their rosters built.

So the question is why would a Team draft a similar player to one you already have on your Team? Why waste a second round pick? Is it salary related, performance related or a personality conflict with the DC?

Ultimately; Golden got a less expensive player who can be molded to be his Viper.

Terrible comparison in my opinion. Pratt is a big, slow 2 down linebacker that even fell off against the run. Maybe in college they looked a bit more 
similar as Pratt was way faster and slimmer then, but Knight is a great tackler and takes great angles. Pratt's weaknesses are Knight's strengths.

Was Pratt slow? I thought he was a converted safety who excelled in pass coverage. Knight is much more of a mike/thumper type, though I heard someone critique him on his pass coverage abilities even though he made some big plays. We still have Logan Wilson, but it kind of sucks we lost one more of the players who made big plays during the superbowl run.

I do think Knight will be really interesting to watch, we haven't had a player like him in recent memory. He reminds me of Drue Tranquill who stood out against us when he played for the chargers. Just a different type of linebacker.

Not sure about Pratt, but Logan was a safety that became a LB

Nate; I actually view the comparison as a compliment to Knight. Although he is graded higher than Pratt was, and only 0.1 points below Campbell who went in the first round.  

The advantage that Knight has is his experience as a true LB in college - Pratt had only one year of starting LB experience in college, with the rest as safety. Knight can start immediately whereas Pratt started in the middle of his rookie year. 

Knight and Slaton are the main reasons why I feel our run D will be significantly improved. If he gives us 4-5 sacks as well, this would be a huge pick. 

The Ravens games will be a good test for him. Luckily, they are in the latter part of the season. If he can limit Henry and contain Jackson, we have a winner on our hands.
