What is the actual benefit of playing football outdoors in the elements?
Wouldn't we want to make it as friendly on the team and fans as possible?
Is it just about being "tough" to sit outside in inclement weather and hot September days and freezing temps after Nov?
There's a reason Super Bowls are usually played indoors or in southern states where it's not freezing cold. It provides the best product on the field and best experience for the fans in attendance.
TV broadcasts are also getting better and better for how close they get to the action and clarity. Back in the 80s and before, the broadcast was not nearly as good (from footage I have seen, I did not watch football in the 80s and prior myself). Heck, you're almost better off nowadays watching a game on TV to get a better view than watching in the nosebleeds/back of the endzone seating, especially for the cost.
As Paycor, buffalo, pittsburgh , kansas city sell out most of the time...real football fans love the outdoor expeience

The roof would still allow some games to use the elements while giving many more uses for the stadium year round.
I do not know if hey have land needed to build a new stadium without getting rid of Paycor first. If they did, to me a grea plan would be to buiild the new retaractible roof stadium. Once it is completed, build a 40 story hotel where Paycoe sits right now. This additional hotel space would help us attract more events like a Super Bowl game, final fours and concerts to help the city. county and team to recoup their investment. They could own the hotel and hire a management company to operate it. If not own, that land is expensive and I am sure there would be a hotel that would love to build an iconic hotel right by the new stadium, and very close to US bank, GABP and the west side new soccer fcility.
The 40 story hotel be equipmed with 8 to 10 restaurants and multple bars, even shopping. The parking could be undeground and help with game or event day parking as well.
It won't happen, but that woud be my desired outcome.
I'm kinda half in on this. I'd prefer to keep the existing stadium and do the upgrades they showed earlier this year, with more suites around the north end. I also liked how the new practice facility fit into things and re-routing mehring way looked. Once the bubble is gone, that gives them more parking as well.
The thing i'm really in on is the hotel/entertainment complex. Their curent "parking garage" just East of the stadium would be a perfect spot. Plenty of room for a big hotel with underground parking and entertainment/food places and it's right next to the stadium.

You mention the lack of hotel space, yet then attack the concept?
Do you know how many rooms would be added with a 40 story hotel? The MGM Grand has 38 floors and the largest stand alone in the world. They could build one in Cincy complete with a casino.
Why would it not work? If it adds, 8000 rooms, they would help the cause to get big events in my opinion. Big Events equals big bucks and tax revenue for the city and the county.
Right now over 30,000 rooms just in Cincy metro area. This new hotel would add 25% more rooms.

I went to the Super Bowl in LA, it had many issues one being hotels. My hotel was i Beverly Hills and it was over an hour in traffic to get to the parking lot to get on a bus for an hour to get to the game and back.
My guess is if you factor in Greater Cincy and Dayton areas, we would no longer have hotel issues if we built a super hotel downtown.

I prefer a Dome stadium for many reasons outside of just Bengals Football. Would love to get a NCAA Tournament game in our area.
I'm still young so I don't mind the elements too much but I can see in about 10-15 years I'm not going to want to deal with it.
Now would I renovate Paycor to include a dome my answer would be no. I think you'd need to build a new stadium.

I think our city and county officials need to think outside of the box. We have 3 pro sports teams in Cincinnati. We have UC, Xavier and many other other college sports teams. We have the US bank (think still called that) to support events. The convention center rennovations will add to people needng hotel rooms and other amenities.

For me, it's someone who can drink 8 beers before game. 10 beers during the game. And someone who can throw some smack to steeler fans without being an obnoxious jerk, and still walk away without staggering. That's a real fan.

1) there is not room 2) you dont build an overabundance of hotel rooms clinging to the hope you may or may not get some NCAA tournaments etc occasionally....this debate is nonsensical..decisions have already been made

Absolutely nobody wants tontravel back and forth to dayton and you dont build a super hotel downtown that will sit 75% unoccupied the majority of the year

95% of the time the weather in Cincinnati is noht so adverse to sitting outside and watching a football game.Domed stadiums are cool but there is a marked difference between being indoors and outside..Dont know if you are awrecof this but over 80% of the fans in buffalo in numerous surveys wanted an outdoir stadium..but this article is non sensical...decisions have already been made

There is no room on the riverfront to build " super hotels" and more importantly you dont build them if they are going to be only 25% filled the majority of the time..Cincinnati I think is a great town ..but a destination spot it is not

The potential plans to add a dome was $1.25b and would take four years (so realistically probably $1.5b-1.7b and 5+ years because no giant project runs on budget and on time). If the Bengals want a dome, they can pay for it themselves.
I think both the plans and the costs to r3novate Paycor were responsible..I have never heard from any players or management representation kf the team that they wanted a domed stadium..Give me larger scoreboards and a permanent indoor practice facility..I will be fine

Just build the 3rd largest building in the city, that doesn't have enough demand for it? Lol (Carew Tower at 49 and Great American Tower at 41 floors are the only two with more than 36 floors in Cincinnati.)

if we want it, we will have to pay for it, maybe we should have a second poll, if you want a dome would be we willing to share the cost because for ownership it does not make much sense to for a dome stadium, fans come bad weather or not when you put on a good product. Look at the Saints, dome stadium but when they start losing, fans don;t show up. Also studies have shown dome stadiums on average charge for to see the game, so think about it we probably average 5 to 6 games played in summer and fall , only 3 to maybe 4 games are played in the winter, of course that is not counting playoff games

I don't really keep up with what Buffalo fans want or like, as that's not the team I care to follow.
But the point of the thread is what would be your preference if there was a discussion about a domed stadium for the Bengals or not, so whether a decision has been made about renovations to Paycor or not is irrelevant for this thread.
You say 95% of the time the weather in Cincinnati is not so adverse, but what's your definition of adverse?
IMO, that's subjective.
Some may consider sitting in 90 degree weather adverse. In which case, the first game or two of the season could fit in that category.
Some may consider below 40 degrees adverse.
Some may consider snow adverse.
Some may consider downpour rain adverse.
Whether they choose to attend or not attend a game in-person because of the temps or inclement weather doesn't make them a fan or not.
A fan is someone who roots for a team. Period.

Well that's not true, as some fans like myself (and I'm sure many on this MB) don't live in the county where the stadium is, or even the greater Cincinnati area or even Ohio.
There are plenty of fans who travel up to a few hours away to attend games and may prefer a certain level of stadium quality/amenities but not have to succumb to the county/city taxes.
