On one hand I don't want to make too much of an interception of a team's 3rd string QB.

On the other hand, between Battle fumbling before scoring a TD last year and looking like he was completely disinterested in giving any effort at all today, I REALLY don't want to ever see him in a Bengals uniform ever again.

So eh, whatever, I am on board. Lets see what Tycen Anderson can do.

Battle pulling up shying away from contact against a QB at the goal line for a touchdown when the QB was clearly running the ball was very bad for a SS that should be your hitter replacing Vonn Bell.

I have seen a few of our guys running up to guys trying to hug them weak attempts at wrapping up.

Really bad at tackling I think they need Fairchild to teach the defense how to shoot in and take someone to the ground.

It can't get much worse than it was last year, right? Putting those guys in again as starters doesn't seem appetizing.

I wonder how much of that is because that's what they do to each other in camp. Battle should have knocked him 5 feet backward

It's frustrating to watch defensive players whiffing at weak attempts to grab the upper torso region of the ball carrier. On several plays I wondered why they aren't even looking at the ball carriers hips.

I really think they get in that mode in camp, and it takes them awhile to get around to actually having a tackling mindset.

Must be a team culture thing as the other team didn't seem to have that problem.

I think it all depends on how camp is run. I remember Marvin putting a huge emphasis on players not going to the ground, which, while it supposedly saves injuries, I felt always bit us. I'm not sure if Taylor does the same thing. But that looked like a camp tackle to me, just basically two-hand touching the guy.

I am certain the lack of tackling in camp is a reason for our bad tackling in games.

"Practice how you play"

I just do not see how you fix that in the next two weeks with only one preseason game left that our starters will not play in most likely.

Maybe we crowd the line more on the running plays in the non-vanilla version of our defense, but something has to change.

Back to Anderson, I felt he had a nice pick and showed some athleticism. I hope he keeps progressing as he is the most athletic safety on our roster.

On to 2025, let's save the drama for the off season.
