Us not getting anything from the last 3 first round picks has hurt us and I think it was one of the reasons we sort of had a "decline" this year.
2014: Darqueze Dennard: Injured most of the time, when plays doesn't play that good.
2015: Cedric Ogbuehi: Played terrible at Right Tackle, could be better at Left Tackle (natural position).
2016: William Jackson III: Injured for the whole year.
We haven't got any actual products from our last 3 first round picks...

Stop with the Ogbuehi natural position thing. I know a lot of people say that, but he played RT more than LT in college. Kid is just not a good player. He could be good, but he needs to be coached up.

He was regarded a top prospect due to his abilities as a left tackle and was First-Team All American as a left tackle.

This year Ogbuehi said he felt 1000 times more comfortable at LT compared to RT before his first start at LT. He promptly gave up two sacks. At least he felt comfortable while doing it.

2017: A corner or tackle yet to be named who either: A- dropped eight spots because of an injury/off the field issue (but was too good to pass up); or B- is a consensus pick suffering a tragic groin injury moments after he signs and misses all of 2017.

Yes - And when you don't sign many big-time, impact free agents outside of mid 30's guys and guys to 1 year deals...you need to hit on 1st Round picks.
While Jackson was injured the entire year...he could have returned...instead they brought Peerman back.

We also haven't hit on later round picks like we have in the past on guys such as Geno, Ioka and Marvin Jones. Guys like Hunt 2nd round is a complete bust, Devon Still 2nd round did not work out. 2nd round pick Hill has regressed since his rookie year. Dawson 3rd round pick cant even make the active roster. Will Clark 3rd round pick not sure what we have in him. Moved up in the fourth round to take Bodine, who is going to be a 4th year stater and is still a not a quality starting NFL center. Also by picking 3 corners in the first round we have neglected other positions and we still have question marks at corner back. With the 9th pick we need to pick a player that can start day one.

And immediately set our kickoff returns on fire... see Pittsburg. It was the right call bring in a backup corner who won't see the field or a st captain.

His draft profile was spot on - very athletic. Negatives were lacks core strength and technique.
His technique has to improve a lot. That's correctable...with GOOD COACHING.

The 2015 draft was really bad. The Bengals dug themselves a hole (thus far) by going for "ultra athletic" OTs that were more project than ready. Many felt Ogbuehi was a reach in the first round, and so far it's proven to be so.
Kroft has only contributed 221 receiving yards in 30 played games thus far. A third round TE should be contributing more in the passing game. He's being used like a late round TE.
Dawson hasn't done anything, going so far as to be released and signed to the PS due to attitude issues. This is a player though that might be able to contribute at least maybe at SAM if he could actually see the field.
Shaw has been a good selection, especially given the round he was selected. I still think he's a better fit at FS than CB though.
Hardison has been hurt both years and has 0 stats. This was considered a good selection at the time, but it hasn't panned out (yet).
Uzomah has done well considering he was a project with no true position coach in college. As a TE3, he's exceeded expectations, but he's not an impact player yet.
Derron Smith also has not seen the field on defense. He has 12 total tackles and 1 PD in 28 games played. Given the struggles at safety, he needs more opportunities. Just like Shaw, Smith was rated as a high round prospect that fell in the draft process.
Alford wasn't able to contribute enough as a receiver or returner, which resulted in him being cut. Bad pick.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. If he can turn this into a playoff appearance, it will be impressive.
Sorry for Party Rocking!

Cedric may be better suited as an NFL LT, but lets just call it like it is, he's just not that good.
Can he improve? certainly
Im not banking on him being a major contributor on this team in the future. I foresee us looking for FA help and drafting a tackle in the near future. But im no Piano Man.

The Bengal's Scouting-Drafting group subscribe to the "Evan a Blind Squirrel..." theory. This group will NEVER make very good picks because of it. My patience with the Bengal's franchise has worn very thin.

I still have some sort of belief in him, according to him at least.. He had a really bad year and in the offseason was trying to get back to football and didn't get to train to get better or anything like that. I'm looking at it sort of like the Geno Atkins situation where he wasn't that dominant the year after coming back from an injury and after having a full offseason of training, he went off.
Ogbuehi knows what he has to do to get better and will have the ability to train to get better this offseason after such a terrible season. I still believe in Ogbuehi in being our franchise Left Tackle, I think he has a great season next year to be honest.

And yet they have improved with Duke Tobin taking on more responsibility and a modest increase in the scouting department size.

Maybe they got a little cocky, reading their own press, hearing the praise, started getting hung up on the idea of getting steals in the draft. That, and ever listening to PA in the draft room, has set them back two years later.
Add in last year's pick. He can;t play because we don't know if he's good enough. We won't know if he's good enough because we won't let him play. It's a combination of things but it all boils down to ***** themselves.

But, pray tell , is he going to get GOOD COACHING? From PA?
