Its OK now to teach religion in public schools
#1
As long as it's Islam.

Students forced to memorize the 5 Pillars of Islam. Mom says son will have no part it.

Good for her.

They are not teaching religion other than its impact on history and society.

And they do it with all religions.

Too many people are just too stupid to figure it out.

Did you read the whole Snopes article? I will read the other ones.

"Learning about the Five Pillars in a historical context does not convert students to Islam any more than learning about Martin Luther’s 95 Theses converts them to Protestant Christianity

"This isn’t the first time that a course on Islam has been misrepresented as a government sanctioned indoctrination in the Islamic faith. A series of fear mongering articles have been penned since 2001 claiming that public schools were forcing Islam onto students. In January 2015, several web sites reported that a Boston Public School was forcing students to recite a prayer which would “officially convert them to Islam.”

While these stories typically involve a smidgen of truth (many public schools do teach world history and therefore touch on multiple religions), it is inaccurate to say that these lessons are being taught in an attempt to convert children to Islam:

My stepson had the same workbook.
It had all religions represented.

And this is from the Politifact article that he (assuming it's a male) provided.

DownTrend.com’s headline read, "Students In Fla. High School Forced To Recite Islamic Prayer, Make Prayer Rugs." This makes it sound as if students were being indoctrinated into a religion, and that's not the case.

Instead, students were studying the religion of Islam as part of a world history class. According to a district investigation, pupils were assigned to make prayer rugs as an art assignment. The district recommended a different art assignment be made from now on.

As for reciting the pillars of Islam in class, only one student complained his class was made to read the shahada. The investigation cited a notable lack of evidence that anyone was forced to recite a prayer.

The statement contains an element of truth but ignores critical facts that would give a different impression. We rate it Mostly False."

READ THAT LAST SENTENCE, lol. At the very top, it even says "mostly false". I mean, c'mon man. What kind of liberal crap are you feeding us here? Tongue

Well that failure was brought to a swift end.

I give him props though. At least he tried. Should have read those articles though, lol.

A conservative citing an article they didn't actually read?

Just another day at P'n'R.

But Blutarsky probably "imagins" that these kids are being converted to Islam.

That is all that matters to him.

You wanted prayer in school, right?

When a science teacher comes to your evangelical church to teach evolution during Sunday school then you can complain about prayer in school.

Until then how 'bout we keep school in school?

There was a school district in the fredstate that taught children Islamic prayers and even sent them to a site to learn how to make their own prayer rug and the site even sold Muslim items.

I will try and find the YouTube video.

They should let them teach about God. Let the local districts decide how they choose to do that, there is no reason why religion shouldn't be talked about in school.

This was already covered.  It was in history class.

It also taught other  religious histories also.

To be fair, this is clearly governmental endorsement of religion, at least according to the logic of those on the left. ThumbsUp

Two things.

1, it's already been covered, that's not what happened.
2, if it did (and it didn't) then you would be in favor of that, yes? Because that would have been letting "the local districts decide how they choose to do that."

Look at Benton using logic and reality to state the obvious…like that will work. [Image: happy.gif]

Sure.   I don't have an issue or fear about discussing religion in school.   There should be open discussion and debate.    Maybe we would have a more understanding society when it comes to each other's religious or non religious views.  Certainly shutting off all discussion hasn't helped that any.

And the story was irrlevent but the topic is not .  That's what I was commenting on, even though the OP wasn't accurate, it's still a worthy topic to discuss.

Our World History curriculum covers the basics of the Greek, Roman, and Egyptian beliefs. It covers Hinduism, Islam, Judaism, Christianity, and Buddhism. I think Taoism might be in there too.

Parents need to educate themselves on the curriculum before flipping a shit over something so insignificant.

People in this country need to educate themselves on everything before flipping a shit.

So much misinformation flows in this country. I blame the liberals. Mellow

I agree, as long as it is explained as a myth and not pushed on students.
