Lance McCallister rips Taylor on DC fiasco

2 never materialized into anything because there wasn't enough mutual interest to pursue it (Del Rio & Capers).
1 was a nearly impossible sell because he could retain the same position with a legit SB contender.
1 was interviewed, and seemingly one or both sides didn't feel comfortable or think it was the right fit.
1 was negotiated with and leveraged that into a better deal with his current team.
1 was blocked from interviewing at all.

I get that some are antsy about how long it's taking, but not sure how the process itself translates into a 'fiasco' as Lance puts it.

So true, great post Holic.

I don’t think there wasn’t a back up plan. Taylor wanted some coaches that unfortunately their current teams wanted more.

Don't you think other teams like their coaches that leave to be coordinators elsewhere?

It depends. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. The Rams allowed Pleasant to interview, but the Saints blocked Glenn. We blocked Vance Joseph previously.

Yeah, I mean, whether they end up going with option...whatever, we'll have to wait to see the guy's product on the field before we know if it was a good or bad move on Taylor's part. IMO, it's just way too early to predict doom and gloom just because the process hasn't been quick and the candidates haven't panned out - for one reason or another - so far. It took 16 years to get a new head coach, what's a few more days for a DC?

Why? How many NFL fans outside of Cincinnati do you think even know this is actually going on? I promise there's not a single fanbase in the league right now looking down on the Bengals because they haven't hired a DC yet.

They'll get a guy soon enough. A good chunk of the board has already convinced themselves that whoever they hire will be garbage, while another chunk has already convinced themselves that whoever they hire will be the best hire ever anyways... someone can go ahead and start the threads now, just call him Mr.X, because the conversation among the fans here is going to go the same way regardless.

I wouldn't say embarrassing, but I do feel it just shows inexperience by Taylor and our front office. In my company, anytime we have a major hire we bring in a at least five candidates within a couple days. We make sure they can see other applicants passing in the hall and let them know there are several other people interviewing for the position. It creates a sense of scarcity, as well as putting them under pressure to bring their A game. This contacting 1 person at a time and waiting for a response and then moving to the next person makes no sense to me. You do that with a friend you know is going to take the job.

I think the possible worst side of it is if these guys are turning down the job because they don't think they can succeed here because of Taylor or the personnel or whatever.

While we look at the roster and see Atkins and Dunlap and 1st Round CB's, and good Safeties...our defense was historically bad over a several game stretch.

Just as in your post about an article your read by Mike Lombardi, you think that makes you an authority on Taylor. You read an article.  Truth is, you don't know any more about Taylor than the rest of us.

To everybody on here and Lance McCallister, it is stupid to be blaming a coach who has been here less than 2 weeks.   Mike Browns been here for decades and has built a reputation as a cheap dictator and a loser, but you don't want to blame him. Bless his little old bald head. No, you would rather blame a guy who has been here less than 2 weeks.

This isn't some unknown guy. We can see what he's done in past stops. He was mediocre as coordinator of the Bearcats. That's a true statement. Their offense got worse under him than the year before.

It's funny...when things go good people are like Katie is running things! Then when things go bad, Mike Brown gets blamed.

Could this guy be a great coach? Maybe.

But, he's going to have to do it with the same front office that hasn't won a playoff game in 27+ years. And I tell you what...other teams don't have this much trouble hiring a Defensive Coordinator.

How else are we going to get everyone worked up for ratings?

What if Pistons and Lance are the same person?

It's a fan message board. None of us know what's going to happen. My speculation is just as good as yours.

Mine is atleast based on his past coaching stints...

Past coaching stints--

Jack Del Rio--fired from his last two jobs.
John Fox--fired from his last three jobs.
Rex Ryan--fired from his last two jobs.

Need I go on?  Does that mean they can't coach?

Good lord Pistons how can you like to state that your favorite team is not attractive to anyone else?

Seriously?

I like you dude but i just don't understand this. Taylor wants who he wants, we need to be patient and not panic.

It is not up to us. Let him do his damn job and quit quoting ******* Lance.
