Quinton Spain is visiting Cincy this week; likely to sign

Having watched this team all season, why would anyone actually pick this team if they have other offers?

I think a lot of free agents will view Joe Burrow as a ticket to the super bowl at some point in the near future. Sure, this season may be a lost one, but if you have the chance to sign a 2 or 3 year deal with the Bengals, Joe gives you a pretty good chance of being on a relevant team for the next few years.

At least that will be the pitch to free agents in the off season and when opportunity signings like this come around during the season.

Redmond needs off the field.
I'm not sure when XSF comes back, but XSF deserves to be on the field when he's back.
While I've been anti-Jordan up to this point, he did have a good game against CLE.

Question for you all...
If the Bengals sign Spain and it's beyond the rest of this season, would you feel comfortable enough with OG being solidified between Spain, XSF, and Jordan going into next season?

I would.

Get a good T in the draft and draft an upper-midrounder at G to groom (ala Boling), then we have a good line for 2021 and a potentially great one beyond.

Jordan is the mid rounder to groom IMO.  He just got thrown to the wolves way too soon.

if Spain is signed through (at least) 2021, their depth chart could look like:
LT - Williams, Johnson
LG - Spain, Jordan
C - Hopkins
RG - XSF, Price
RT - Hart, Adeniji

I think there'd be room to move on from both Johnson and Price.

On top of that, the starters for the rest of the team could be (* assumes re-signing):
QB - Burrow
RB - Mixon
WR - Boyd, Higgins, Tate
TE - Uzomah/Sample

NT - Reader
DE - ??
OLB - Hubbard, *Lawson
ILB - Pratt, Wilson
CB - Waynes, *WJ3, Phillips
S - Bates, Bell

DL would be the biggest need with Spain signed, right?

It is virtually impossible to visit teams right now since they have to clear COVID protocol.  If someone is visiting and they pass a physical odds are they are getting signed.

This is fine, but they need to figure out a way to include a team option for 2021 if it works out.

Bringing in 2 month FAs at this point, with no plan to carry them under contract next year, makes no sense.

We need to be able to bring some of these retreads back next year if they prove to be more than useful, but not at a FA/new contact commit.

League Min with a 3-4M 2021 Team Option, wonder if they'd bite

I've gotten so used to this weird world of Covid that I completely forgot about the protocols like that.

Great point.

Well, Hart is out for week 8 & it sounds like Jonah is as well. Hopkins in concussion protocol. XSF to be re-evaluated after the bye.

For now: Adeniji, Jordan, Price, Spain, Johnson.
Reserves: Redmond, Sutherland (both Gs)

Absolutely... Joe should be a major draw.

I think it makes sense in that Burrow wouldn’t get hit as much.

I'd love to see the team go after Daryl Williams. He's an above average tackle that had an awful year last year due to injuries. He signed a 1-year bounce back deal with Buffalo and he has definitely bounced back. He's still young at 28 and has a lot of good years ahead of him. He won't necessarily be cheap, but I think he'll get less than some of the other big name offensive line free agents.

PFT seems optimistic about the likelihood of Spain signing with the Bengals.

Report: Quinton Spain visiting, likely to sign with Bengals
Josh Alper

The Bengals may be getting some veteran offensive line help.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reported on Sunday that former Bills and Titans guard Quinton Spain would visit with the team. Tyler Dragon of the Cincinnati Enquirer reported Monday that Spain is expected to sign with the team assuming all goes well with that meeting and COVID-19 protocols.
The Bills released Spain last week after signing him to a three-year, $15 million contract during the offseason. He had been a starter with the team last year, but took on a reserve role in Buffalo this season before being let go.
Cincinnati’s line has struggled to protect quarterback Joe Burrow all year and they had three linemen go down with injuries in Sunday’s loss to the Browns. Left tackle Jonah Williams has a neck injury, center Trey Hopkins is in the concussion protocol and right tackle Bobby Hart hurt his knee. Guard Xavier Su’a-Filo was already on injured reserve, so a healthy, experienced player would be a welcome addition to the group.

I wouldn't really be comfortable with it, tbh.  Spain, Jordan, and XSF all really fall more into the backup/spot starter category than bonafide quality starter category.

I want to see them play as a unit before committing

Agree with this.  But at least on paper it's a group that shouldn't leave Burrow at risk of imminent death each week.
