So...was Marvin holding Ross back?
(09-11-2019, 10:43 AM)fredtoast Wrote: And the people obsessed with ripping Marvin will deny that any player ever got better without new coaches.

Funny how people complained that Marvin used Ross too much on deep routes, but his big yards under Taylor come on deep routes.

And Ross played over 90% of the snaps over the last 8 games last year so the claims that Marvin benched him every time he made a mistake are 100% bullshit.

Marvin haters can't admit they are wrong so they just make stuff up.

And how many snaps did AJ, Boyd, and Eifert play the last 8 games ? Who was he gonna put out there  Burfict ?

Burfict graded out at 78.6 by PFF. (Preston Brown had a 78.9 so they played almost identical.)

He had a 1/2 sack that got wiped out by penalty.

Boyd played over 90% of the snaps in games 8 through 14.

How many snaps did AJ play yesterday?

I am not sure what your point is but we had other WRs last year just like we do this year, but Marvin did not bench Ross every time he made a mistake.  That is just a bunch of BS some people made up to try and blame Marvin for Ross sucking last year.

I recall a couple of games early last season where Ross was a healthy scratch.I also recall toward the end of his rookie season Marvin saying ross was injured then Ross felt the need to go on social media say he was completely healthy and had no idea why he wasn't playing. 2 sides to every story

Funny you don't remember Ross admitting that he was trying to hide an injury from the coaching staff his rookie season.

Ross was a healthy scratch when we had better WRs available.  When we didn't he was out there for almost every play.  He didn't have to worry about getting benched for a drop.  Yet his catch % and yards per target were not just bad.  They were among the worst posted by any WR (with at least 50 targets) over the last decade.

Ross seems to be better this year, but I see no evidence that getting rid of Marvin was the reason he got better.

Then you're not really looking.

Yeah because Malone and Core were so much better 1 is a 6th wr with the giants the other is a free agent

Missed it, so Burfict might not be done eh?

Lindsey is pretty small but usually he is good at picking up the blitz.

Wish Burfict the best, was my favorite LB to watch in his prime.

He looked above average to good on Mon night. I don't think he practiced much in the offseason. Who knows if he can keep it up.

Burfict is 1 concussion away from being finished. playing a position where it's extremely likely to get another we made a good decision.

Explain again what your point is.

It seems you are agreeing with me that Ross did not have his confidence ruined by being pulled from the game every time he made a mistake last year.

Am I right?

I was being sarcastic for Ross to be a healthy scratch for Core and Malone is unacceptable

I expected him to maybe even be cut by the Raiders before the season after how bad he was last year.

So I am a bit surprised he played that well in his first game as a Raider.

I agree.

Early in the game, I thought he looked like he did a couple of years ago, then he started his shenanigans again by just hitting people not even remotely involved in the play.

I don't blame Lewis for benching him. Ross is trying to change the narrative, but if you remember, he wasn't benched because he dropped a pass, he was benched because he could not learn his position. He admitted as much. But, the past is the past, and hopefully Taylor can get him rolling. Last night was a good night for him, but in truth, if the safety had made a better play on Ross' long touchdown pass, it would have been an interception.

Which would have been on Andy.   Ross was open and made a dandy catch.

This is just one game, and I'm not convinced that Seattle is all that good.   They had real problems with their O-Line and DBs - kind of set us up to take advantage.

But as down as I've been on Ross - and was in ranting mode after he dropped that pass - he looked different Sunday.  He overcame himself.  If he can get out of his way he really can be special - but I would not have said that before Sunday.

Yep. 1 game is such a small sample size.

I don't expect him to stay healthy and play at a high level all year.

It's what he does. It's compulsive.

Looking at MLs body language and his how he answered questions pertaining to Ross you can tell  he wasn't exactly 100% Behind him.
Lewis gave us the same stale company lines about him.
ROSS only got more involved in the offense cause Eifert Boyd Green were on the IR.
But Lewis and Lazor really did not match his skill set with plays in the offense
Oh whattya know..both Lewis and Lazor are no at their positions they held with the Bengals
Wonder why?
Ross was used on routes that make the Lingerie Football league schemes look complex
Taylor had installed a belief in Ross.
Marvin never did that.
He was too busy with  his Favs like Core and Burfict
Rewatch the Hawks game .how energized Ross looks
He finally has a coach that is supportive of him and knows how
To be creative with him.
You know..using him on more than 3 routes

speaking of Burfict, he was getting a lot of love on the broadcast.
