The War on Disney
#1
So uh.? Thank god somebody is fighting against the diversity and inclusion Disney is poisoning our children with.?

I don't know where we would be without the people who have given us cancel culture, the War on Christmas, snowflakes, karens, and wokeism.

Gazillion dollar monopolistic corporation is down 28 percent in value the past year.  Stock was near 200 and now it's in the 130's.  I'm generally not going to determine their own right to choose sides.  But as a big company I question their wisdom to alienate customers.

You're always going to alienate some one these days. I'm more bitterly amused that of all the shady stuff Disney has pulled to get where it is it is the woke stuff that finally got the "moral majority" to take their proverbial balls and go home.

Maybe Disney was lulled into a false sense of security by assuming conservatives who criticize liberals for being easily offended and cancelling things would stay loyal to their brand if they catered to the liberals more.

I support people showing their support via their dollar, it just makes it more clear that everyone gets offended and pulls their support and complains.

So, I don't think we talked about it on this forum, but Disney was under fire from liberals as a result of their backing politicians that put forth and/or supported the "Don't Say Gay" legislation. So there was an employee walk out over the milquetoast response the company gave to the legislation. They've been doing a little damage control since, which will draw the ire of the right.

Honestly, I just get tired of us trying to get corporations to be morally virtuous based on our own morals. Corporations are out to make money. Those are their morals. Their duty is to their shareholders and that duty is to make them money. We should stop pretending it is anything else.

It is interesting seeing people attempting to come to terms with stuff like this.  Do the people who feel betrayed like this even wonder how or why their moral identity has been so easily projected upon this business to begin with?

The wholesome family values of Disney?  What a bunch of marks.

Edit - I will admit Disney's zeal to demonize step parents and siblings is admirable, though.  Disney and pornhub sure do have interesting takes on step family stuff.

Boo Hoo. Disney, from it's very start, was a place for kids to be kids. It used to be all Mickey and Minnie, Goofy, Pluto and the fairy tale Princesses. Once Michael Eisner took over the place, things started to change, and have gone downhill since. You can see the changes, from subtle things like in how Princess's and Princes were drawn. (Compare Snow White to some of the more modern drawings) to their political activism. They've been caught placing subliminal messaging in their cartoons. Now in their latest production, Red Panda, is about periods and abortion, even spouting the "My Panda, My Choice" in a nod to the mantra of the pro-abortion crowd "My body, my choice." I'd venture to say by the time most girls get to their first period, they are way past the Wonderful World of Disney. Disney has come out against Florida's Parental Rights Law. They have an agenda to sexualize young children instead of letting them be children. Why would anybody be surprised parents are now turning away. It's really quite simple, if you are a company that made it's fortune to catering to young children, don't be surprised when parents start turning you off when you start sexualizing young children.

I always love when people ignore the hidden innuendos in soooooooooo many Disney properties over the years. Disney has never been just a place for "kids to be kids." They've always had other stuff going on. I do love your embrace of cancel culture, though. Good on ya.

Snow White is about a grown ass man kissing an unconscious teen girl. Pretend he was her teacher and cancel that.

Alienate people who live their lives the way they feel they want to or should or alienate people who insist we pretend those people don't exist and we not even talk about it so they pass a law about it.

You ever read the story Snow White is based on? The "dwarves" kidnapped her, she was a slave and was raped by them. Pretty rough folk tale.

From a business standpoint, Disney's reach is so overarching and their portfolio is so huge that they can alienate a significant portion of their base no matter what they do or don't do.

Pretty much. With Marvel and Star Wars both under their umbrella they will forever have a legion of undying fans.

Disney made it family friendly by instilling the wholesome value of child brides.

So there's no indication he was a full grown man, and not a teenager himself.

Really, when was the wedding? I missed that part. Was the Happily Ever After a 10 year engagement and then a lifetime marriage, or did they get married the next day after just meeting? You're interjecting your own storyline into it.

I gotta be honest, i haven't watched Snow White since I was a kid, and i just assumed there was some wedding ending.  Maybe im thinking of the little mermaid where a teen girl instantly marries an adult man .  So he just kissed an unconscious little girl and then didn't marry her and they cohabitated in sin, this underage girl and her adult lover.  Seems legit.

Rich adult man saves a disadvantaged underage girl.  We should all be so lucky to have this dream come true for us.  They should make a modern version where the prince flies to Thailand to pick out the girl he will save.
