Thoughts on Zimmer
#1
What are your thoughts on Mike Zimmer? I think his contract ends this year.

My thoughts are that we should have promoted him to HC when we had the chance, but that ship has sailed at this point.

Yeah he should have been promoted to HC before he left. Instead with stuck with Marvin the turd. I'd love to have Zimmer back as DC .. thatd be great.

The best transition ever would have been from marvin to zimmer. Never happened unfortunately.

Yep, would have been the way to do it but you know MB. But like others have said that ship has sailed.

But, if Zimmer would have been made HC in 2014? We wouldn't have had the 2015 playoff meltdown to haunt us for all eternity.

I'd take him as a HC in a heartbeat. I doubt the FO is ready to move on from Taylor after just one year, but if Zimmer could be convinced to come back as DC, could give Taylor the experienced coordinator/coach that this team needs.

The Bengals seem to hire coaches that go with the flow. Zimmer is the opposite temperament.

This. Kicking Marvin into the FO and handing control to Zimmer would have been the best move. Zimmer will likely be retained by the Vikes.
Through 2023

Mike Brown’s Owner/GM record: 32 years  223-303-4  .419 winning pct.
Playoff Record:  5-9, .357 winning pct.
Zac Taylor coaching record, reg. season:  37-44-1. .455 winning pct.
Playoff Record: 5-2, .714 winning pct.

You obviously are not familiar with the Vikings' postseason history under Zimmer.

-Blew a nine point lead in the fourth quarter to lose.

-Blew a 10 point lead in the 4th quarter and then won thanks to a miracle fluke play.

-Got blown out 38-7.

The Vikings will NOT let him go regardless!  The Vikings owner isn't Mike Brown.

Mike Zimmer isn't leaving Minnesota. Zygi Wilf is eccentric -- not crazy.

Is that how you'd characterize Turner?

Not like it was ever going to happen, but they only time you will see Zimmer in Cincy is to coach a team against the Bengals.

Head Coaches. The assistants don't interact with management daily.

Plus...Zimmer was here himself before.

Marvin, Taylor, Lebeau, Dave Shula, Coslett...were all 'go with the flow' and guys who didn't rock the boat. Zimmer is brash. It's no secret that that's why it took him so long to be a HC.

And his Bengals DC experience in the playoffs. Generally our defenses underperformed in the playoff losses. The whole team really did...but the defense was generally part of it.
