The number of proclaimed months and days coming out of our federal government is sizeable, sure, but this is something done for minority groups in this country to recognize the contributions they make and that they are pat of the community. This happens because there is a history throughout all of humanity, not just our country, to treat minority groups poorly. When you have a group that has a history of being marginalized it is important to let them know that we do not intend to do that any longer.

Now, can you all imagine the uproar had Trump not made the proclamation for Older Americans Month, or Small Business Week? The AARP and the Chamber of Commerce would have raised Cain. I just have to ask that those dismissing the months for racial or sexual minorities do some internal reflection and think about whether your reaction would have been the exact same were it to come to those. You don't have to respond to defend yourself or anything, I'm not going to get into a flame war about it, but for the vast majority of people the answer would be no if they were being completely honest with themselves.

Are you asking would my response be the same if they didn't recognize those other two?  I didn't even know those other two existed.  The only one I actually know is Black History Month is February..

Why do we need a gay month? And why do we need it recognized by the White House in a statement?

Why do Christians need Christmas and why are some offended by "Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas"?

Same premise.

Same premise.

Christmas would be Christmas with or without the government acknowledgement. As for how anyone else celebrates that day is on them.

What on earth have the gay's done to society? They are just people who have a deviant sexual nature. Not really noteworthy.

This is nothing but the government trying to normalize deviant sexual behavior.

You can't think of one contribution to our society made by someone that is/was a part of the LGBTQ+ community?

Did they make a contribution because they were gay? Maybe we should have a straight sex month given all the contributions of straight sex people. Since no one can make contributions without their sexual behavior leading the way.

Maybe you could move to somewhere that homosexuals are not treated equally/normal.  That's your right you know.  Mellow

I do not care if the White House acknowledges the gay's month or not.... all of these Months are just pointless. There is no need for a gays month since the pro gay lifestyle is crammed down everyone's throats whether we want it or not.

I'm actually in favor of ridding ourselves of every single declared week, month, and day. But, that would include getting rid of the day of prayer and a host of others as well. Thoughts?

As I posted above.... I don't need the government to tell me to celebrate a day that I feel is important.

I mean I'm sure you don't mind Victoria Secret ads, Viagra commercials, dating site ads, etc.

What difference if they are gay too?

To me this goes back to the hang up with sex most people have.  And they associate the gay lifestyle purely with sex.  Usually male/male sex and that REALLY bothers people.

I don't want to know about anyone's sex life.  But I also don't care if they are gay or straight and want to get married or not.

All of this is well and good. But do we really need the White House to acknowledge a month on behalf of someone's sexual behaviors?
